Side-mount/offset licence plates
Is it legal in Qld? Can it be mounted easily using some of the stock kits available on the 'net?

Was looking into this myself, was thinking of doing the evo x nose mod a while back...
Found this link relating to NSW: http://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/fragv ... 2-pt.5+0+Y
Looks like its the same for QLD: http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/Home/Re ... er_plates/
Think its the luck of the draw if you'll get defected, depending on the popo pulling you up.

I also looked into this at one stage and calculated it would cost me somewhere around $450-500 all up including installation, CF front (to replace the holes where the current plate are) and the correct mounting plate below the HID washers on my car. In summary, too expensive for too little.

450 is nothing to alter rego plates, my plates alone cost me $2200.
Also on what billyboy said there is another regulation somewhere that tells you the actual placement of numberplates, how they should be attached, they can be attached and where they cant be attached,
from memory of reading this regulation, it can be mounted anywhere on the front or rear as long as the plate is parallel with the associated axle, and viewable from 45degrees of the car at 20m.

If you have the black vinyl front I would get small Black personal plates and fit them centrally between the grills.
I hold my plates on with velcro strips. Easy for cleaning.
There are also some number plate frames that help locate it centrally. Aspired has a nice one.Image URL: http://www.images.clubcj.net/results/20 ... spired.jpg

I bought a plastic holder off eBay, but it is designed for the smaller US style plates. My vic plates are 2 inches too long. Still haven't figured out a way to fix the problem, so the plate is held on by two zip ties to the lower grill.

^ Cant you still centrally mount your plate onto the holder Bob, 1 inch over hang either side wont look too bad will it?
This is the UK spec side holder, though I think this will be bit too long for our plate specs. Cant win either way...
Aren't you concerned that this will make it simple for someone to steal your plates? Dunno about SA, but happens quite a bit in NSW.
