Laptop problem

Postby tjoz » Sat May 08, 2010 4:04 pm

As some know, my laptop stopped working a few months back and after finding out it was the motherboard that fried itself I went out and got replacement board.

There was some trouble with that, the first one I got didnt clear customs and was sent back to the supplier so wait till another one came in from Japan instead. That came in and now Ive cracked it as I cant get the rest of the laptop apart. Had enough

Ive got the screen off, most of the bits out but cant get the rest of the casing off to get the motherboard out. The idea was to swap everything over to the new motherboard and laptop work again. Laptop was second hand, previous user never updated the BIOS and its Compaq Presario V600 which had a BIOS problem which caused the thing to fry its motherboard. There was recall on it and an update was released which made the fan constantly run to stop the frying part. Previous user never updated and I now have the fried motherboard problem.

You think I should bother replacing the motherboard or just get a new laptop instead? I have replacement board and most of the laptop is in peices but I cant get the rest of it apart and Ive had enough of it.

Come back to it later or just go out and get a new laptop?

AHHH Tim I think a new laptop is the way to go .....

We had one in pieces once then the screen wouldn't go back in properly

It ended in the bin ... we got a Toshiba & haven't had a problem with it ...

So I would suggest getting a new one IMPO ........ :)

What do you use your laptop for?

Besides surfing and emails, do you need to do anything else?

If like me you're just doing some simple things and the occasional spreadsheet or graphing program, you'll be surprised just how cheap it is to do a 10" Netbook with 500GB HDD and 2 GB of RAM (<A$500). The portability makes it a real joy!

When you want to use it at home, you could like me just get a 24" LCD panel and run an external bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

I don't game.

I got motherboard out and now up to putting the stupid thing back together, and yep struggling at the screen/keyboard and upper audio controls bit. I can get the keyboard in then I cant get the other two bits in.

Think this one is 15", Core2Duo, 320gb hard drive, Vista about 1gb ram and crap everywhere  I did look at getting one of them 10" ones but I thought they were for little kids. Too small.

I only was going to use the laptop for ECU stuff and iTunes (so Library is on laptop too). Occasional xml editing here and there. I dont play games on it, I have an Xbox 360 to play games on... Covered in dust
