Have you ever wondered if there are any other ClubCJ members that live close-by or in your own suburb?
I read one post from Ryan (Username - Hoges) whose been call out for 2 weeks, (are there any Sydney Eastern Suburb members other than me ?)
This club is currently verging on 1500 members, and whilst we don’t all live in one place, it would be nice to know what the geographical urban spread was.
I know you can look-up the members list and sort by location, but the problem is that most members will refer to their location by city or state, eg: Sydney NSW, Melbourne VIC or Brisbane QLD etc etc. Very few members mention their suburb.
Let’s face it Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth are pretty large cities by Aust Urbanisation Standards, and knowing how many members actually live close-by or in your vicinity can be almost impossible to determine without a more refined method of location or proximity.
My proposal to this Club’s Admin Team:
Generate a Log-On prompt that “requests†members to update or amend (in Account / Profile) their location according to Suburb / City / State.
(but “Do Not†make it Mandatory)
Some members may wish to remain private and/or anonymous, and those rights must be respected and accepted.
So many urban members and especially those who live on the outskirts or fringes of large cities or towns rarely get the opportunity to meet other members other than having to attend an organised meet which in many cases is simply to far and or “time inconvenient†for them to attend.
Unfortunately these members are left with no other alternative other than to stay logged-no and communicate with faceless affiliated members.
Having refined locations appear at the bottom of a members Avatar would give many lone members the opportunity to recognise there are other members who exist in their area and via PM, organise to meet on an individual or small collective basis.
The least that can occur is a “not interested reply†which is acceptably fine.
The whole purpose of a Club is to join / meet / communicate and share in a common goal or interest.
Consider my proposal and I invite all members to respond with their own opinions be-it for or against.
Cheers: Sam

I agree Sam. I am one of the few who actually have my suburb in my location. This way other members especially those in Adelaide know where I am if they need help.
A bit like when we were asked to give our first names. It made it more personal and I found it good that I new who I was talking to.
Good suggestion Sam!

it does have pros and cons.. i dont put my suburb down because im paranoid this is for all forums im on. I dont like idea of putting up the location of where you live because thieves can build a profile on you. I mean they can look up your members page see what parts you have etc and now narrowing down the location of where this car is just makes me paranoid
There was period i think last year or the year before where a lot of cars were stolen that were forum members (this is on all different forums not just one). I mean when you have a spotted thread with people always spotting you in the same places all the time it gives the thieves a good idea of where you work, live or hang around a lot so they have a better chance of knowing where your car will be for them to target.
I'm not saying anyone here is a theif or does those kind of things but im just saying this stuff does happen and anyone can join and register this forum..

A few states have done it now, its just a private google maps page. It just shows where the members are, not their specific address or anything, but it helps provide future reference for club cruises n stuff...

Thanks for the varying responses so far, its good to get other members opinions and feelings/reservations etc.
Matt replied: First part !
Not quite Matt, a members Profile: Location only reguests City, Country.
I'm not implying or insisting on any major change, other than perhaps including the word "Suburb" in the Profile Location.
If members actually see the word Suburb they may feel comfortable enough and add it, if not then they just leave it omitted.
Its a choice, nothing more or incumbent (obligation)
ClubCJ undertook a similar exercise not so long ago when we were all prompted upon logging-on to include our proper Christian Name in our Avatar.
Most members welcomed the request and obliged accordingly.
And those who declined were equally accomodated without bias.
Food for thought !

If it wasnt mandatory, it would be exactly how it is now..

I thought of that but don't know how!
For people who have quite a bit of moolah spent on mods, I don't think they'd want even their suburb listed on the interweb along with their car mods and pictures... might make it a bit too easy for someone who's dedicated to stealing something to follow you.
