There are plenty of roads out there where you can drive at 'your best' as very rarely you will reach the speed limit on these roads
. I got a few but dont know many of the names as I dont look, if it looks like twisty roads I go down it and half the time end up on dirt roads...
These ones are for VIC people:
1. Great Ocean Rd to Forrest via Skenes Creek. You start in Skenes Creek and take Skenes Creek Rd and follow it through to Forrest (from Tanybryn it becomes Forrest-Apollo Bay Rd). Its a fast road, long sweeping turns with tight ones spread out to mix it up. If you want more twists, head about 5-10mins further into the Great Ocean Road from Skenes Creek and take Wild Dog Rd to Tanybyrn then continue on to Forrest via Forrest-Apollo Bay Rd. The road has a mix of speed limits ranging from 50-110. Two lane road, very little areas for overtaking if you get stuck behind a slower car.
2. King Lake-Marysville-Lake Mountain-Warburton. Very long around 50/60km of tight, fast roads winding around the mountains. If you start in King Lake coming from Emerald you can add another 20-30km to it. Depending on where you head in this area, you can get hit with the 'tourist traffic', especially on the King Lake-Marysville stretch of it. But alot of the tourist traffic ends in Marysville which then leaves Lake Mountain-Warburton virtually no tourist traffic. In the winter months there will be more traffic when you head to Lake Mountain from Marysville for the skiing season but still from Lake Mountain to Warburton in any season is virtually no traffic at all
. If you have manual, you will have much fun. The road from Lake Mountain to Warburton can be hell on your brakes on gearbox, very tight almost single lane in areas and its 100k throughout. On the Lake Mountain-Warburton stretch there is not many opportunities for you to open it up to 100.
3. Mt Donna Buang. Two roads here. The sealed road and the dirt road. Mt Donna Buang is reached from either Warburton or Healesville. Warburton-Mt Donna Buang-Acheron is the sealed road. Mt Donna Buang has a forest canopy walk at the base of the mountain in the carpark and then you have the lookout up at the summit. The other road that leads to Mt Donna Buang from Healesville is hell on a lowered car. You will struggle for traction and its single lane only. This road only the first 1/4 of it is sealed and to get on this road you take it from Marysville-Warburton route. There is two roads, the dirt road is on the right when you follow the King Lake-Warburton route. A sign will say Marysville, you take that road and about not even a minute into it you will see the road splits, the road on the right is the dirt one, the left takes you to Marysville and Lake Mountain. The dirt road is Marysville-Warburton via Mt Donna Buang. Honestly do not take this road if your car is lowered.
4. Buttercup Valley. No idea what it really called or where it is but there are cows everywhere. Its somewhere past Inverloch . Its a tourist route that you take from the main road and its an area called The Great Forrest (the writing on the metal plate said The Great Forest was cleared for this area and what not). Its not far from the ocean. There are heaps of hills in this area and one lane roads wind around them. Its off South Gippsland Hwy, a sign will say tourist route and thats how I found it. About 30km of one lane twisty roads around all these hills.
