Boot

Postby Josh_Emerton » Tue Mar 02, 2010 2:14 pm

I'm looking into the possibility of refurbishing my boot floor with a flap for the fullsize spare (which I've just put in) and a metal-look vinyl (which I have access to). I plan to build a timber 'frame' to raise the level of the floor, and then put a board of plywood as the 'floor'.

Does anyone have access to a 'blueprint' for the boot design with measurements etc that saves me making a mistake?

Does anyone have any advice regarding anything do to with the actual construction?

With regards to the boot 'flap' i mentioned, I plan it to be either a square flap just big enough for the tyre and my arms and then a little bit, OR the entire back section of the boot.

Also, does anyone know how to install 'netting' in the back? Going from the roof to the floor of the boot, to protect subs. I havent installed the subs yet, but I plan to buy some soon ish. Just need advice on how to hold the netting in place, really - I could staple it into the roof, sew it, or install clips, and i'd probably put like split-tacks in the floor or something, i dont know.

You can try using your boot carpet as a template to get the reqd shape & as you mentioned cut a piece of ply & use foam rubber pieces as feet to lift it up. In your case you may have to do it in sections to get the desired compartments.

I used this method after installing my UR boot braces, as u know the RA has a foam cubby in front of the spare which I didnt want to cut into. Went to Bunnings & bought a suitable plank of 6mm thick melamine & basically used the foam piece as a template & cut the reqd shape.

Then got some black foam blocks (approx 100mm high) from Clark rubber & glued on underside to get the reqd height to match the existing boot floor, sprayed some matt black paint on it & job done! .

Can take some pics if u want, pretty simple setup.

If you can get those pics, I'd very much appreciate it. Especially of the foam blocks, that sounds like a good idea. Reduce vibration as well.
