how does this compare to the 9600gt ?

by performance grade of the 9000 series (2nd digit) 9600GT is better.

if your after gaming better to go with like a 1536M GTX480

if your after just normal stuff at higher res, and play older games from like 2008. then this will do it but wont be anything spectacular.

but just stuff like pictures and movies and normal computer stuff this does fine at higher rez,
