No the sound comes through the speakers with or with out the can bus however the stock sub will not work at all (with or with out the can bus)

To be clear if you have the rockford the sub will not function to an acceptable level.

yeah my bad external as in its not a part inside the unit but internal as in it sits behind the head unit. I read the question wrong
