MY11 SX write-off, going to buy another lancer+ need opinion

Hi guys!

I'll keep this as short as possible;

1. Had a car accident with my 8month old blue my11 SX :(
2. Insurance said its a write off and I get paid 24k
3. I want to buy another SX,

I paid 23k for my11 and it came with bluetooth, mats and fuel tank. This time around i'm going to bargain in some more extras like tinting, can someone tell me how to go about asking the dealer to do this and what I can ask for :)

Also, should I wait until the MY12 comes out and buy the newer model? I did a quick search on MY12 and I didn't see the SX listed as a MY12 car.

Cheers,
Kam

Kam, unfortunately there are no SX's in the MY12 :(. You should be able to get an MY12 plus a few extras for that. And you would have more of an idea of what you want now I guess now that youve already been through the process once. (And sorry about your car :'( )

WHAT? NO SX :S

Leather steering wheel? Chrome exhaust? Bluetooth? I need my creature comforts :( Time to hit the mitsu website and do some research.

will the MY12 ES have the SX spoiler?

There is the ES, then there is a convience pack that goes with it (I think it has quite a bit of the items the MY11 SX had). Also, have you thought about maybe a VR?

After a bit of research it seems you're right , but it doesn't include the spoiler!!! I guess I have to get the dealer to include the spoiler in the car price or source an aftermarket one (evo wing anyone??). The spoiler is the selling point for me, that was my favourite feature on my old baby...

hey mate, sorry to hear about your car! but try going in and asking for the MY12 'ACTiV' model. it's somewhat par with the MY11 SX because its inbetween the ES and VR.

They don't advertise it because there aren't that many ACTiVs produced, but it's pretty much just an ES that the dealer beefs up for resale. It includes things like raised spoiler, side airdams, leather steering wheel, chrome exhaust, 16" alloy wheels, bluetooth, reverse sensors and stuff :)

Sounds like it ticks off in some of the parts you wanted!

thanks for the suggestion, do you know how much the activ usually goes for? Would it be easier/cheaper to grab an SX? but i'd lose out on many of the new features introduced in MY12 :(

Does your insurance policy include new-for-old if the car is written off in the first year or two? Mine does and i have had the discussion with my dad (who works for the company I'm insured with) and he said if the SX is deleted and mine was written off they would replace it with the next level up, as replacing it with an ES would be compromising resale value.

Something worth investigating with your insurer

There are 30th Anniversary deals as well. Check those out with your dealer. They're in the Latest Offers bit on the website.

You can still get an SX but you will just have to take what's left. They're still advertising them on the tellie and on the Latest offers page.

Hey Kam, sorry to hear about your car! For 24k you could probably get a brand new VR.

You could also look at second hand and probably get a VRX for the same money. Look around.

MY12 sounds like a good deal.

If it was me i would wait to the end of December or January when they will have 2011 run out sales.

Thanks a lot for your input everyone, its really helpful. I'll think about this more and visit some dealerships over the week and let you know how I go. I'd rather buy a lancer sooner than later, but we'll see...
