08 RA with under 100,000ks

Hi all,

I'm an OG club CJ member from the start of this forum and thinking of buying another Lancer but this time an RA Lancer.

I've found one locally that's been off the road since 2018 (it's 100% stock, older owned) and it's been in storage as they have been travelling Australia.

It's blue but the owner said the clear is starting to peel on the roof even though it's been undercover.

Has anyone had this same issue and what was the costs to fix? I'm thinking of wet sanding it smooth then applying a gloss black vinyl instead of a spray.

I would go nuts and get a full respray done of the entire outside.
I have seen places that do it for about $2500 and seen some examples of their work and it's definitely worth it

He said I could have the car for 12k if I take it as is (unregistered, not serviced, clear peeling on roof) or 15k afterwards.

Also its a 2012 not 2008 lol.

I'm thinking 1-2k for a complete service and ~$800 for registration.

So not sure what he was going to do about the roof.

Sounds like a good buy for 12k. Vinyl on the roof until you decide about paint. Transmission service is a bit of a killer with the cost of oil and filter.

If this is the case why have I seen RA's for sale with manual gear box in them?
They are few and far between

All the Ralliarts had the SST transmission. There has been a few converted to 5 speed manuals mostly in the USA from what I've read.

Sounds like a steal, I'm with Lancer Darryl a roof wrap is a great cheap option. I ended up getting mine resprayed, the clear coat was coming off and looked terrible. I actually went cheaper temporarily and Plasti dipped my roof until I got it painted.

I see quite a few RA's being listed as manual and a few manual evo's listed as auto on FB marketplace but I don't think I've seen a manual RA before

on topic:
Check the transmission service history and make sure it's being done often (should really be every 25-30,000kms or whatever the Japanese schedule was but our Australian schedule was every 60-75,000 for some reason causing a lot of early failure in the SST)

The transmission oil is liquid gold so be prepared to buy a 20L drum of Castrol Transmax Dual Transmission (part# 3380380 :) ) for a few hundred.
