Hi all,
Apologies first of all, I was wanting my lancer so bad for the past 6 months or so but money issues just got in the way. However I'm finally up to the point I want to be which brings me here again.

I have found a 2009 lancer (MY10) with Km's below 40,000 and full service history at a mitsubishi used dealership. The price is $12,000 and the car looks excellent. I'm booking a test drive for later this week but was wondering if anyone can give me a guide on how much wriggle I have with this price. I know its already a bargain as it comes with free 3 year warranty on top but this car has been there a while and I feel the special is make room so I'm hoping I can haggle a bit.The price doesn't include transfer and stamp duty.

This will be my first major car purchase so any tips are also appreciated.

Cheers guys ,
James :o

I should also point out that it's an ES.
Not that it worries me at all because I know I can add all the goodies
I want to without any hassle and I'm not fussed about the keyless, MMCS etc.

I point this out more for accurate tips and prices.

Are you aware of other models of the lancer? :)

Seems to be the higher end of the 'private price' according to Redbook but nice low k's! Mine is a 2010 Ralliart (produced in May but we bought in Oct) and we've done 36,000k's :)

I believe Fitter got his CJ super cheap as he found some evidence in the boot (i think it was) that it has been in an accident as a repairable write off

you should look into trying out a VR model aswell. there is a couple on car sales around the same price (~12000). much better value

I was just going to suggest that. Or the VR-X if you wanna save just a tiny bit more

Yeah I am aware of all the models, I've been doing my research while saving the past year  . The VR's that are around the same price I'm scoping out as well.

I would love a VRX but the ones that have been in Adelaide are all out of my price range and low km's is high on my agenda because I want this car to last me ages. All the cosmetics I can do at a later date but the independent suspension would be nice.

Mitsi I'm not sure how confident I'd be having a repaired vehicle with as low a k's as I'm looking.

Do any of you feel I'd be able to get the price any lower?

Theres 2 VR's for sale down south a blue 2009 and a black 2010 though both have over 50,000kms on them but only asking $12.5k

also a maroon 2010 Activ for $15k only 33000kms at city mazda

some prices ive seen for cars are a bit stupid from dealer to dealer especially when i seen someone trying to sell and 2007 es/vr wannabe for 12.5k when someone was selling a 2011 ES with all the VR extras excpet foglights for $12k

Take the time and eventually you will find a car and be like THATS THE ONE!! :) good luck

I only meant be wary - they didn't tell him it was a repairable write off :)

Yeah I agree the jump in some of the prices is just crazy especially with some 08 models going for the same price as 10 with the same km's.

the black is at southgate holden.. Yeah dont understand how they can justify selling and 08 for an 10 price when if you were to trade in a 08 model they would give you stuff all and sell if for double lol

Depending on how far you want to go. Both of these look great and both with MMCS and low k's:

Cheers Mitsi, both great looking cars and I have considered the trip to Vic to get what I want but ideally the most I'd pay would be $12,000 or just above its what 'the one'

$12k doesn't sound to bad for a 2009 ES from a car dealership to me with 40k km's! If you don't need or use the features of a VR or VRX when they you might as well save your pennies and buy an ES!

I have a VRX and love it but it is completely up tp you to how much you would like to spend!

Anyways keep an eye out on Carsales, Ebay, Gumtree etc. often too as you might find a nice bargin one day! :)
