Buying from NSW & Reg in Vic

Postby bunnishiwa » Sat Mar 31, 2012 9:48 pm

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with doing this and help me out with aa few Q's. Looking at flying up, buying, n driving car straight back to Vic on the NSW plates

Do I need to transfer ownership on the NSW side first? Then transfer to a Vic plate afterwards? Is it easier/cheaper to transfer ownership by getting them to fill out a Vic form as well and just doing it all in one hit in Vic?

Any other advice?

One other Q - not sure yet whether car was brought on finance - is there anything I should do to ensure that car is 100% mine once I purchase?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi, I have done this in the past. Just drive it back on the NSW plates then organist a RWC when you are back once you have that off to Vicroads to register the car in Victoria. Then you can chuck the plates because the reg will be cancelled in NSW anyway.
Simple process.
You won't need a transfer form as the car isn't registered here in the first place.
This was around 8 years ago when I did it, hope nothing has changed.
Good luck with your purchase.
