Any advice on buying an Evo X

I am looking at buying a Evo X 2008, 5sp manual going for mid-20s. The Evo has always been one of my more attainable childhood dream cars.. The car has full service history and minor mods (full exhaust, intake, clutch, etc) + a tasteful street tune by a Evo specialist shop. The price also seems lower than the ones on the market at the moment.

Any advice on what to look out for would be great! Is there anything I should look out for in particular when inspecting? I know the early SSTs were more prone to issues.

If you own an Evo, is there anything after buying the car you realized you didn't like? I know the trunk space is bad and the fuel consumption is horrendous.

Early Evos had timing chain stretch issues but all of that shouldn’t be a problem now. All you can do is make sure it’s got a good service record and has been worked on by a qualified tradesman. Be wary of highly modified cars as the reliability will be out the window Good luck

The Evo I am looking at had it's timing chain replaced 8 years ago as a part of a recall by Mitsubishi.

It has an up to date logbook and the current owner spent a lot of money servicing it with an Evo specialist which is a good sign.

The 4b11t can make more than enough power for street use on stock internals anyway and I am not after a 700 HP dynoqueen that only gets driven in and out of car meets. If anything I'm personally considering detuning it to factory.

Sounds like it an OK car. I get the occasional “it’s not a real Evo” with mine too. It’s way more comfortable and pleasant to drive than the earlier ones and eat more reliable too.

Next time some clown tells you it's not a real Evo , ask them to show you their Evo

I get this statement from people I work with all the time and I quietly think to myself go have fun in your commodore or falcon and I'll enjoy driving round corners in my "not real evo". I understand that the Evo X isn't like the old ones but seriously people need to move on. The Evo X has way more tech and in my opinion looks more modern. It had to happen eventually with the other Lancer changing shape.

The irony of a site like this where many owners want to modify their Lancer or EVO is we don't want to buy one that has had mods.

I've has some think my VRX is an EVO, clearly some see Lancer and immediately jump to EVO.

Yup agreed
And not.all of us with Lancer even though we modify the thing to death and are trying to wring its neck and get everything out of it , aren't necessarily interested in owning an Evo.
