If it is true that insurance companies don't like dynos then it would be safe to say that its probably because of an inherant risk that is too great for them to take on. Now volunteering your own car while knowing there is an elevated risk you have no one else to blame when things go wrong but yourself.
If I was a dyno tuner, I'd be dam sure to get a signed waiver from any client that uses my services, as the saying goes "all care but no responsibility".

ok so that makes no sence why would you not strap the front down aswell?? i would sue the pants off them.

I think in this case it would be easy enough to prove that "all care" wasn't taken (especially since they were stupid enough to put evidence on the net ) so I really doubt it will matter what you signed, if they are that stupid they deserve to get sued! Natural selection has to operate somehow right?
Take a look at where the guy comes from; the US. If strange crap is going to happen, that is the country that it will most likely happen in. Who knows what went through their heads when they strapped only the rear down and not the front. Maybe that was their first AWD car on their dyno or maybe they were dick whipped over seeing an Evo.
I think its happened a few times down here in AU too where the straps have come undone/snapped and one or two where engine went bang.

What about business insurance? It would be covered I think - damage to a customer car while in your care. I'm sure someone involved with a workshop would know...
Love that car!
