Snapping Wheel Nuts

Just recently rotated my wheels and the drivers side rear wheel one of studs the spline end of it has come out and not allowing the wheel nut to free itself instead its stuck on the stud. Now i cant get my wheel off and to get it off I have to damage the rim.
I work for Nissan this isn't very common but when I went next door to Mitsi they say that the CJ's are common for it and easily corrode if not greased regularly so please check your wheel nuts as this can be a pain.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Not aware that anyone else has had that issue. Unless the nuts you have are of a particular metal that has reacted and fused with the thread?!

Can't you just rattle gun it off?

No chance i took it to work on tuesday put it on the hoist and tried pulling the frim hard. you cant rattle it off as it is loose and freely spins

I have not come across that problem, having worked on quite a number of both high and low km CJ Lancers. Maybe it might be the weather conditions that adversely affect the wheel nut's/stud's integrity?

I've tried using my pry bar and rattle gun at the same time to hopefully loosen the stud and tried tightening it to break it off but nothing seems to work

Not overly common on the CJ as far as I am aware.

Usually when it is over tightened with a rattle gun it wrecks the spline.

weld the stud in and then try removing the nut.

Troy's suggestion seems to be the only option left.

Raise Car on Hoist .... Weld the Stud Head at the rear of the Hub.
Fit Socket & Remove the Nut.

As Shane mentioned:
Usually when it is over tightened with a rattle gun it wrecks the spline.

Generally the Stud simply Shears in half, which would have been a much easier fix.

I've seen it happen a few times at work ..... and mostly due to a Bone-Brain mechanic with an incorrectly set Rattle Gun.

Most Rattle Guns have a Torque Setting Dial ....

You really should "AVOID" - "DISCOURAGE" someone using a Rattle Gun on your Wheels ....
They're "NOT NECESSARY" .... Unless the user is Proficient & Understanding of their Proper Use.

Sam ....

The other easier option will be to grind off the head of the stud and then punch or pull it through.

nah i have my rattle gun set on low and tighten the wheel nuts up with my torque wrench set on 95nm

and btw you cant weld the stud as it is on the rear not the front like the picture shows and theres my rim on the hub aswell.

if your careful enough you can drill it out, we have done it b4 on a few vintage cars, just start off with a small drill bit then work your way up., then replace the stud and wheel nut
