Replacing the centre wheel cap in OEM wheels?

Postby bumblebee » Sun Jul 02, 2017 11:45 am

To replace the plastic OEM centre wheel cap on alloy wheels can we use a flat blade screw drive to pop them out or do we need to remove the wheel all together from the vehicle and undo a clip or something from the inside before it releases?
Thanks

No need to remove the wheel, just pry the cap out with a thin lever.A butter knife with some tape over it is ideal.Just pry it a little then go to the opposite side and pry it out and it will come out.

Thank you very much.i was wondering how i could do it without damaging the alloy wheel as they are easy damaged but the tape will take care of that.

Safest:- Remove wheel and push it out, maybe a light tap with the flat end of the handle of one of your tools.
Protect, both wheel and centre cap.

Im not interested in saving the cap. Im replacing the caps. My biggest concern was damage to the alloy

Yep, these are notorious for getting scratched and faded and then they look rubbish. I thought about buying some off ebay but I ended up going a different route and painted my wheels instead haha.

I made a mistake. The first one i bought that i thought was a full set turned out to be just one on its own
Doh!
Lucky it was inexpensive. Lesson learned.
So waiting patiently for my new set of 4 to arrive

I have already had my car done with underbody sound proofing a few weeks ago by a company up in the city.was under $300 and made a huge difference. There is info about it here on the forum

Thanks guys for the feedback. I tried a butter knife wrapped in masking tape. I couldn't get it to do anything.it just kept sliding.
Anyhow.i grabed a semi decent sized flat blade screw driver ad wrapped around it about 6 times some making tape and worked it from one side to the other as said previous in this thread and it works a treat. Old caps in the bin new ones in and no marks on alloys.
Yippe.
Thanks all
