Tuesday morning driving to work in the rain, I managed to blow my motor.
The car cut out on me, pulled over to the side of the road. Restarted the car and all seemed fine, I drove real slowly trying to listen for any noises or signs of trouble. I was a couple of hundred meters from work when the car went bang, I had the car towed to the mechanics.
Not 100% sure what happened but the mechanic has said a rod as punched a hole in the side of the block.
Time for a motor replacement.

So no warning on the console?

Does the CJ have a 'limp home' function?

Don`t think he would be limping too far with a rod through the block

It seem to be ok , drove fine ( had about 5 kms to drive to work ) no warning just shit it self. Mitsubishi wouldn't even cover my dodgy clutch from the day I bought it , I can only imagine the bullshit I would have to go through to claim on the motor.
My mechanic has almost finished installing the new motor , came from a wrecked 2013 model only has 20,000 on the clock. ( the wreck was t boned and written off , no engine damage) cost me $1700 installed.

Guess that's not bad considering a mechanic was going to charge me about the same to replace a head casket in a 4G93.

Is the new engine the same size/spec and did you get the clutch fixed at the same time?

oh wow! Hope everything works out well, and the cost of the engine replacement is really good in my option considering is a lot of work involved

tuned?
I'm assuming so, otherwise there is no way surely you would just take a blown motor on the chin...
Hell, Evo X owners are getting motors under warranty all the time.

A few reasons that I was prepared to wear the problem.
I had a few things done to the car which mitsubishi would argue about.
I used a dodgy mechanic which ended up closing and can't find them.
I believe the car may have run out of oil last year ( my fault for changing mechanics )
I believe I did more damage on Tuesday when I drove it.

But at the end of the day it cost me $1850 for a 2014 model engine with 9000kms , new clutch and full service.
I was quote $1200 just for a clutch, so happy to pay $1850 all up.
I have a good mechanic now and only charges me for parts and no labor.
