90,000km service

I've hunted through threads here and elsewhere and have ended up with conflicting info, hence this question.

My manual transmission MY10 VRX is due for the 90,000km service.

With this service, is the timing belt/chain replaced?

My dealer's service centre says the 90k service will cost around $1500 (!!!) and said that while their computer didn't list anything out of the ordinary, he suspected it meant the timing belt had to be replaced. He said when I brought the car in they needed to check the service manual to see exactly what is required.

The manual mentions replacement of the timing belt every 100k, but the manual covers all types of vehicles including 4WD.

Before asking MMA and the main Mitsu service centre I thought I'd ask here to see what if anything has been done re the timing belt with the 90k service.

FWIW the dealer sells a variety of new car brands over Melbourne, but the service centre closest to me is one of their Holden ones so their knowledge of Mitsu's might not be extensive, although via their computer they know what services are due and when.

4b11 dont have a belt only a chain

90k service items.
Oil and filter
air filter
brake fluid
coolant
Depending on when ur spark plugs were last replace they may need to be replaced

Its not a big service. The RA 90k service is $1500 cos its a all fluid change
Id say around the $400 mark

Stacey 90,000 is a major because they have to change you platinum plugs , you would had you major done if u have done 113 :)

90,000kms is a major service. They change everything-filters, fluids. They don't change the timing chain, just check it to make sure its all good. They also check the valve clearances. This is why it costs so much. In Adelaide I rang up pretty much all the mitsi dealers and was quoted $700 to $850 for this service. My cars auto, so I'm not sure if that makes any difference in price.
I got mine done and only ended paying $350. I was quoted $450 but I supplied my own oil and have a k&n air filter so they knocked $100 off the price. I asked why it was so cheap, like half price n they said its cos they don't do the valve clearance, and haven't had any problems with not checking them.
If you supply your own parts for servicing most mitsis will knock the service price down.

Shannon,

The CVT fluid has a service interval of 95000kms
It is quite expensive on the fluid and time consuming. and is about 300-400 bucks from mitsu.
Which is why your quote was maybe on the expensive side.
The only other thing that i would say is expensive would be the valve clearance.
Everything else is pretty standard for service and material wise can save you a bit if you buy up filters\liquids\oils etc.

Kal from SA has done a great writeup with pictures somewhere if you are interested doing it yourself or if you wanted to give the write up to a mechanic to follow.

but you will need to buy the right CVT fluid (do not use ATF!)

LOL check valve clearances...... Like that ever happens. You only check valve clearances if it sounds noisey otherwise they dont get checked
Its a normal vrx so it does not have Platnums only normal plugs
90k service is not a major service ( what i posted befor is right out of the service book ive lefts out things that are for a RA)

Well I only paid $240. And been told none have been a major service and I've had no dramas with my car...

I have a mechanic that i go to. not mitsu as they are a rip off
