the transmission is fantastic generally, it only plays up on me when I'm driving sedately or slowly.

Don't really have much trouble with mine, the only problem is getting it into reverse from neutrel (can take a few attempts), other than that all good with my manual transmission!

yeh i find a few problems with the manual.
getting the gear from neutral to reverse and sometimes into 1 can be abit difficult to catch the gear.
also changing gear from 1st to 2nd can cause abit jerky

Seems it's just the way the ol' gearbox is

It is a good 'box on the whole, just a few lil gremlins. Perhaps a change of oil may well fix or lessen the severity of the crunchy shifts.

I taught myself to drive maual when i bought my car, so I was getting increasingly frustrated with not getting into reverse because i thought it was my fault :/
Alot happier now that i know its not just me (:

The only problem I've found is getting it into reverse sometimes, I just pop it back to neutral, release the clutch then it's usually fine.

I sometimes find it hard to shift from 2nd to 3rd but mostly the fwd gears are OK. 1st to 2nd sometimes is jerky but that may be my driving style.

As for reverse I find I usually have to shift from 1st to neutral, then clutch/de-clutch, then shift to reverse, but I thought that was normal as the reverse is not synchronised.

Everyone is saying reverse, which makes me feel better, as I have the same issue. I tend to try and roll a bit, then put it in reverse and it works.

Second gear is interesting for me.. If I'm going real slow, it works fine but is a little "clunky", if I'm driving "aggressively" then second is fine, goes into gear no problem, but somewhere between those two (changing gear at 4,300 - 5,500 rpm) then it grinds occasionally :-/

Another thing I have found with the m/t is first gear seems excessively jerky - not when changing gear, but it seems to react excessively with changes in acceleration. Its not so surprising when you consider its first gear after all, but I can't say I have noticed anyone else doing it when I have been a passenger.

It might well be me though, I have only been driving for a few years and only ever in this car...

Iron, I know what you mean, but only at low revs. Anything below 3k rpm it seems to "surge" periodically in first gear

I don't like keeping it in first and only really put it in to first when I stop. I find it gets to jerky otherwise.

It's not too bad if you put your foot down, you get pretty smooth and quick acceleration then, but if you try to drive at low speeds (through a car park or something) it can be jerky

Yeah that's right - above a couple of thousand RPM it's fine, but it's low revs that does it, exactly as you say Alixxandar in car parks especially....

Second and above are fine, so I will try to change to second asap.

Just reading through everybodys problems. Here is a question for you all.Do you have floormats? These can sometimes stop the clutch pedal going all the way down thus causing the clutch not to disengage 100%.Have a look
