Cleaning instrument cluster

Postby Lancer1993 » Wed Mar 25, 2015 9:42 pm

Okay last weekend I finally got around to a proper wash & wax of the car. But one issue I have noticed since I got the VRX is some stains on the clear plastics in the instrument cluster.

Tried the usual Windex and other cleaners, but didn't want to try anything too harsh that might damage or scratch the clear plastic.

It's hard to photograph, might give it another go tomorrow but it looks like it could have been a softdrink or something someone spat up while driving. It's on all 3, the speedo, tacko and info bit in the middle.

Any help with some cleaning agents I might not have tried would be good. Can't afford a newer colored one right now ;)

Probably tarnished from using ammonia based cleaning products like windex on the acrylic over time, it melts it basically. Pretty sure you won't be able to shift it.

It could have been the action from spraying a cleaner on there and not wiping it off right away. Its one of those things you don't see 95% of the time until the light hits it just right.

Right now it's low on my mod list but it would be good if I can find a color replacement, with the speedo on the right side (tacko on left).

Since it can make it worse I might try some ammonia based clear and see if that helps mask the marks.

If you grip the outer surround of the cluster, the plastic bit that goes around each main gauge - it just clips out giving you full access to the cluster glass (plastic)

Thanks for the tip... worse case if I break it I'll fast track getting a color one ;)
