SST fluid leak?!?

On my phone so please excuse any mistakes.

I'm looking at buying a used 2010 ralliart but after a inspection check they discovered a transmission leak. Got a few quotes from transmission specialists and quoted me anywhere from $1800-2800!'

Contacting mitsu tomorrow as it might stil be under the 5 year warranty.

So my question is has Anyone heard or experienced this problem ?
Know any info?

Doing some research online and it seems any other people have seen this problem?

ANY info whatsoever will help PLEASE!
Maybe I should give it a miss?

It depends on where the leak is.

if the case of the transmission is cracked... it will cost you to find another case and transfer the entire contents. plus get new seals put in while your there.
If its just at the sump and or service points. then it will be an easy cheap fix. are they certain its SST fluid?

automatic transmissions run solely on fluid pressure and witchcraft.
Because it is leaking that fluid over time the transmission will eventually fail.
As there are very finely controlled fluid pressures at certain points which have been engineered into the unit which are required to engage\disengage components within the unit.
By having a leak your going to get a loss of pressure and also the possibility of air or moisture being introduced into the system which can be compressed as the fluids cannot. which can create too much pressure and really blow things to bits.

Overall my advice would be to run. Others may disagree

Carl I had a transmission oil leak on my 2010 RA when it had only done 5k,the leak was coming from a joint where two peices of the tranmission case bolted together.Mitsubishi replaced it with a new complete transmission.Iwas told at the time they had a bit of a bad batch of transmission with the same fault.They put it down to the sealant that was used wasn't up to the job.The fault was corrected in later models.So I would have a very close look at where the leak is before you commit.

If it's still under warranty, get the seller to take the car to Mitsubishi to get it fixed before you buy it and check the service paper work; won't cost the seller anything other than time and you can independently verify from the mitsubishi dealer that the work was done... Everyone wins! :-)

Unless the price is really good and the seller can get Mitsubishi to fix it under warranty (not other transmission shops because they probably won't know anything about the SST even if they say they do), I'd honestly look elsewhere. You also need to remember that the 10-year, 160,000 km warranty DOES NOT get passed on to the next owner, so if you experience problems later down the track, you could be in trouble.

Wow, seems im not the only one!

I hope your right Darryl that it is a problem with the 2010's and they may replace it :)

BUT anyone know how mistu are with warranty claims as the previous owner missed 2 services :l . i heard its a pretty major part.

^missing services is a 'get out of jail free' card for Mitsubishi...

It should also depend on which parts you're claiming warranty on. For instance, the SST is not serviced by Mitsubishi until 90,000 km, so they can't reject a claim because the car missed a couple of services (assuming that the car has ran less than that). They wouldn't have touched the gearbox anyway even if the service intervals were met.
