2.0L CVT noisy after air filter change??

Postby marty_87 » Sun Apr 08, 2012 11:55 am

Hey,

Had my 09 ES 2.0L CVT for about a month and was checking the general things on it such as oil, other fluids and the air filter which was filthy! So went down to super cheap to get a new one. Just got the basic RYCO A1622 which is identical to the DENSO one I pulled out. Fitted the new one all fine and took it for a quick drive. Seemed all fine but when you put your foot down a little and the revs got to about 3000 its sound very noisy compared to before with the dirty one??

I have triple checked its in correctly and I'm 99% sure it is so I'm a bit puzzled as to why a new filter would make it so much louder??

Any help or advice would be great!

Cheers

Marty

It's probably because your air box isn't sealed properly after you installed the panel filter.

Make sure its sealed at the bottom. The service departments we send my Lancer and Outlander too can't get it right. The box is suppose to feel very tight at the bottom. If its loose there its not locked in at the bottom.

I am considering replacing my air filter soon, wondering if its worth the extra coin to go for a K&N Panel filter over the standard Ryco type? I think its roughly 3-4 times the price!!

The difference with a reusable filter is that you never buy another one. You have to keep buying paper filters.

Look in the US on Ebay, can often pick up a K&N quite cheap. I got one for the excel runabout for about $50
