Hey Guys,
Just getting some feedback one a couple of things that I have noticed with my new car.
I have driven it about 4500kms to present and have been noticing:
(1) Probably around the 3000km mark onwards I started noticing that the clutch when depressed about 3/4 down has a bit of friction. Its hard to describe by it feels a bit sticky and as if something is rubbing/grinding in the joint when I lift or depress the clutch during normal driving.
(2) When I start the car in the morning or after work (so after it been parked for a few hours) and start driving it, I noticed recently that there is quite a loud repeating squeaking noise that increases in frequency as I start to accelerate. It disappears when I drive fast than 20km/h and if I slow down again and drive slower than 20km/h the noise doesn't come back. So in other words it squeaks only after the car has been parked for the day/overnight and only at slow speeds when first accelerating, but doesn't come back after I drive faster. The changing frequency of the squeaks when I vary speed points to a part associated with engine/axle/wheels.
Has anyone else experienced these possible issues or are these just normal things? If so, how did you fix it or find the problem? I'm think of getting the dealer to check it out next service.
Cheers,

No point waiting till your next service. You have the best new car warranty. Whenever there's a problem go immediately.
Don't take it back to the sales person.
Go straight to service and tell them.

I've got the same ks on mine and I don't have any problems.
Get in touch with the service dept of your local friendly Mitsubishi dealer and get them to fix it. That's what the new car warranty is all about. As ofey says we do have the best new car warranty available. Use it.
If you leave it and don't tell them then when you do take it for its 15,000km service the problems might be way worse and a lot more may need to be done.
Now off to the phone with you and book that car in.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for your responses. I took your advice and went into the dealer just then.
I told them about the issues and the service guy came out felt the clutch. He said the clutch may have a slight dry patch or lubrication issue at the 3/4 depressed point and that the squeak noise is probably because the brakes are new and the reason it goes away when I drive faster is because it warms up. He recommended i keep and eye on it in the meantime, as the squeak noise may disappear after things are wore in a bit more. They will check out the clutch next time the car is in.

You've told them the problems now and that's good. They know that there is a problem and they can't say you didn't tell them and that it's not their problem or whatever. Make sure you write it in a diary or something that you went there on this day and at that time and this is what they said. Helps when you need to recall stuff.
I need to get the Mitsubishi guys to fix my service book. For some reason they filled out the 15,000 service and not the 1,500.
My Mazda guys have lost that they put the brakes and clutch in my bubble and it takes some convincing to get them to believe me when they need to fix something. New guy in the service office is a pain. I liked the last two guys. The computer doesn't have me on record before last year and I've been taking it there for about 5 or 6 years. And they have my mileage way out of whack. They reckon it's nearly 200,000 when it's only around 170K.
It's just easier to keep everything in a folder for later use

dannyboi wrote:I've got exactly the same problem as your second one. I'm not sure if it's the brakes or one of the belts, but it appears to go away after about 2 minutes of driving. It doesn't appear to return apart from a cold-start overnight.
I've got my service in 2 months, so I'm going to wait it out a bit.
Yeah, when I first noticed it I thought it was possible due to the brakes having a low clearance when new.
I only hear it on a cold-start, when the car has been parked for at least a few hours.
Is your car new?..How many kms have you done?
The car has done 7000 km over about 10 months. Not new but not with very high kilometres either.
Idling doesn't cause the sound but moving slowly away on my driveway does. I tested the brakes this morning but they didn't appear to make much noise, particularly any unusual ones.
I've only started noticing it for the past month or two, but I can't confirm whether it was there or not before. The Greddy exhaust would've masked that sort of sound.

Same, I only notice when slowly moving. I couldn't imagine its the brake clearance after about 5000km.
Ah well, I'll keep an eye on it as suggested by the service guy and as them to look at it next time the car is in.
Can you please update me on any info you get from your service after you have sent it in? Greatly appreciated!
Cheers
