There's an interesting post on Whirlpool listing some of the issues with the new iPad 2 http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-re ... ?t=1665674. Prior to reading that I would've got the iPad 2. When I was overseas I used my gf's iPad everyday while sitting in front of a tv or in a living room, so much easier to use than a laptop, especially when I don't need half the functionality of a laptop. If I wanted to do any work at all I'd pop over to a pc and do it properly.
For some people an iPad (especially if you have an iphone and lots of apps/games on your account) is a pretty decent buy.

yeah , thats the thing i've been thinking , like if i pay a few more hundreds , i could buy an m11x from alienware which has everything fully loaded.
Only thing that attracts me is the accessibility of it , the size and the readily available apps where you can just use. I'll be buying one for parents so that they can use skype/facetime , probably try it out then and see if i like it or not

I would say an iPad2 would be more for youngsters and old folks who don't really find a computer keyboard comfortable. It suits a certain demographic of people.
I often say if you have to think too much about whether you need it, you probably don't.

An Alienware 11 is really the ideal choice. I've been looking at it as well and seeing how friendly it is to Hackintosh-ing and it looks very promising. Not as straigtforward as my Dell Mini 10Vs but it's possible with everything working. The price does make a MacBook 13" not far off so I'm still a little happier the smaller the laptop I can get and an 11" is perfect. Apple should really scale down and do 12", 15" and 17" laptops like in the old days.

I'd get an iPad if the only needs were browsing, Youtube, photos and social networking. The cheapest 16GB one seems like the best option, as it's only extra capacity that you get with the more expensive ones.
I've got an MSI Wind 10'' screen netbook which was useful during uni, but now it's a bit redundant. A bit on the heavy side and the resolution is average.

I wouldn't waste my money. I am very anti-Apple. I have an ipod and that's about it. I hardly use that either because of itunes and itunes sh*ts me to tears. A mate lined up for hours the other day and missed out, so he has been sitting back in line this morning since 6am. I don't understand why - I asked him what the difference is compared to the first one, his response - "Its an Ipad2. So it has to be better" WTF?!?!? I don't get the whole fanboi thing... I'll stick to Android for my phone and a laptop....
I don't like apple either. They're gimmicks for fanboys.
Apple problems are so well known, even before the device comes out. If they cared about anything other than making money they'd just get it right the first time... Or 'righter', because obviously its impossible to forsee everything.
But they know they only have to change one or two things and they'll sell millions anyway... And they'd probably make more money selling two dodgy products than taking their time and putting out one brilliant product.
Maybe the new ipad is fantastic. I still wouldn't have one though, because somewhere down the track you're going to need a real laptop, making the ipad another unecessary gadget, no matter how fun it is. It would make sense to add the $900 towards an even better laptop.

I totally agree. When I'm in my living room and for example want to imdb a movie I just saw a commercial for, look up youtube between commercials or post a comment in facebook/twitter about some random thought I just had, an ipad is perfect. I have a PC in my room for anything else I want to do.
