A sad day...

Postby Romz » Tue Nov 16, 2010 5:00 am

It is indeed a sad day people. As I was driving through the city, after dropping someone off. I was on my way home again when I went around a bend and to my utter shock and dismay I went over what I thought was a pot hole. The tyre went bang, the tyre went woosh, and I went F*@K!!!!!!....
(Dramatic pause)....

But I was alright. Despite the noise and the sudden drop of the car, I was fine. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw what appeared to be an open drain... I had driven over an open drain! In the middle of the city! I nervously continued on my journey expecting a sudden deflation of my port fwd wheel. But to my amazement the little CJ pulled through. When I did finally get home I got out to inspect the damage. And there it was... My brand new Lavinhard rims... have... recieved... *frown* ... their first *frown* ... SCRATCH! *Cry* *Cry* *Cry*

A small scratch it was... only a centimeter or so. But it's something I'll forever see. Now starts the downfall. But I think I'll pull through.

So if anyone is wanting to go on to the Anzac bridge via Pyrmont Bridge rd, then I beg you, stay out of the left lane, or become another victim of Sydney's hidden Pit traps.

That y I don't like Sydney.......

Well another reason not to like Sydney

Just hope u didn't buckle ur new rim, sometimes it doesn't take much. But if u r really worried bout the scratch u no u can get it repaired, I would b getting the council to pay for a new rim if it is buckled

But hey these things do happen, unfortunately. Good luck

'round the corner from me. LOL. Sounds like it's outside the fish markets.

Hey if the grate was not over the pit, write the general manager of the council (Sydney City) and explain the situation. See if you can get them to cough $ for the cost of replacing your rim. I'm sure if you worded it properly and stated that this is a letter of demand, they will cough up. Screw lazy negligent councils.

Sad to hear. I live there and always use the left lane to overtake! Better be careful now. Thanks for the tip off.

Yes I have been told councils insurance will pay for the damage.

If it damaged the rim I would get a wheel alignment as well.

Next time stop and take a picture and maybe see if you can find the lid and put it back on so other drivers dont have an accident because of it.

Depends who owns the pit - Councils don't always own pits - they are only responsible for stormwater ones in urban areas. It could be Sydney Water, telstra or Energy Australia - or depending on the road, it could even be the RTA that is responsible if it is a nominated State road (which Anzac Bridge certianly is, not sure about Pyrmont Bridge Road.

Bummer about eh damage - I remember the time my wife scratched my VRX wheels for the first (and subsequent second) time....

Bad luck man, I am yet to scratch mine *touch wood*

When I was on my P's my mates and I were driving around the suburbs of Perth when we saw some idiots take the grate off a drain. We pulled over to put it back on to prevent what happened to you (or worse really if travelling at speed) happening to other people. How could someone be so stupid as to think that is "cool" or "funny"....

jkr;ghb,p...

don't talk to me about scratched rims... bloody odd shaped gutters on car park ramps. I swear they design entrance and exit ramps specifically to increase the chance of scratching rims.

There are places that'll machine the scratch out if it isn't too bad. (I just haven't got mine done yet.)

Boguns. Once they get a bit of drink in them anything to them is funny. I wonder if its funny when some guy called Butch is up their ass in jail as they thought it was funny to remove something from the road that ended up killing someone??

Its like the same when I go up mountains. If there a branch covering the road we usually stop and get it off the road so no one runs into it. But an open pit hole is negligence, they are suppose to put up signs if work is being carried out in the area but if someone removed it then who knows.

As for the entry/exit lanes in carparks with them gutters that can double as a single storey home; that is exactly how my car got stuck in the carpark in the city. The exit are smaller than the entry lanes. C-persons... Two dints on the rims on passenger side and huge scratch on the sideskirt.
