Postby Dean » Sat Sep 04, 2010 3:28 pm

I know i got the pearl paint on my black lancer, but when i look at my friends our paint looks exactly the same, even in the sun. Apparently im meant to see purple flecks? Did i get ripped off by Zupps again... :(

Theres definitely (a little) purple in the black, albeit I can't see it 90% of the time, the light has to be just right.

You could see the car when you bought it, don't blame other people if you don't like the paint.

Metallic paint, sometimes also called "metal-flake" has actual pieces of metal in it, which are highly reflective. The individual pieces tend to lay in the paint in a horizontal manner, as they are themselves fairly flat, and you can discern the individual pieces if you look closely. They are mixed in with regular paint.

Pearlescent paints get their name from the pigments (the part that gives the paint it's color) they contain which are very round in shape, which gives the paint an iridescent quality, which is to say it looks like a different color depending on the angle.

All the black CJs are black pearl, its not an option to get normal black so comparing to your friend will of course show no difference

Zupps can't rip you off at the paint is factory and there are only certain factory colours. The pearl or metallic are not "options" as such.
If you want blue, then blue metallic is the only color, you can get plain blue or blue pearlescent. Same for all the other colors, it's a set metallic or pearl depending on the color, except for white. You can get white in plain, but not metallic or pearlescent...

You need to look at the car on a perfectly clear day in full sunlight and move around to get the right angle, as others have said.

At night, or when it's overcast you won't see it as much and the car will just look black.

Should correct my typo, above should read "you can't get plain blue or blue pearl...."
