iPhone Silent Switch Problem

First

To Adrian, Shut up :P

Thanks.

---

Ive got a small problem with my otherwise flawless iphone, the silent button switch thing on the side is broken, its basicly stuck on ringer all the time. the switch is functioning, like it moves around n stuff, just the iphone isnt recogonising it as it being switched to silent...if i put the switch in a certain spot, it goes to silent but doesnt stay there

Obviously its a hardware problem, but my question is, my iPhone is jailbroken, and since the jailbreak is software based not hardware based, should I have to worry about re-loading the original firmware (non jailbroken) before i take it in for repair? Im taking it to apple tomorrow since optus was no help as they said it has to be sent off for warranty and would take 3 weeks and they are going to give me a crappy nokia replacement for the interim which i said get f**ked to...Ive got all the extras when it comes to my iphone like insurance n all that junk...

The phone has never been droped or anything either, it just started happning out of the blue at school the other day.

I know, jailbreaking voids warranty i know, but this is clearly a hardware based issue, they wouldnt have any reason to check if its jailbroken even though its fair obvious

I dont mind reloading it to factory, just a pain in the butt....

Opinions? :)

I agree Adrian shut up :D

Don't know any thing about the Iphone except I am thinking of getting one for my wife.

I hear they are good phones.

Michael do you really need the silent function?

Yeah I do, Im at school 5 days a week and then also at work on saturday and sunday and having your phone ring while your in class or dealing with customers isnt really the best idea...

Funny, thats the exact thing the lady at optus said to me, "Do you need the silent function"

In all seriousness Tadz,

Do a full restore in iTunes, that will fix it ;)

Yes you will lose your jailbreak, but that is half the reason the software has bugs ;)

im not worried about the jailbreak, its piss easy to do, its just i dont want to download a 200mb firmware file if i dont have to...

More worried about my contacts n all that stuff...when the iphone syncs, it backs up the data on the phone, and when ive previously restored firmware its come up with restore this as a backup of old data which is has been jailbroken....

iPhones are shit as phones. All the games/apps etc are good but the phone side of it sucks. Why I bought an iPod Touch and a real phone.

all phone repairs first thing they do is check the software, and they always reload it as well, so when you get it fixed, its probably a software problem as its an iphone they are Crappy, there software sucks so does there hardware as well, but i doubt a button will be the problem.

if you dont like problems you shouldn't of bought a crappy Iphone lol.

Update the firmware... But be warned from what I read the other day the new firmware ha a new baseband which won't allow jailbreaking as yet ;)

But like I said it will fix your software glitches. Ash's iPhone plays silly buggers all the time too. Firmware restore always works,

And before you send it away to be repaired it has to be wiped completely and on a fresh restore, with no personal data on it ;)

With Apple it's different.

You aren't even allowed to package up the phone in a box yourself, they only let the postage people do it

Tadz, if there is an Apple Store near you go there (but make a Genius appointment first) and they will update on the spot, or if that doesn't fix it, they send it away for repair from there.
