I wanted to buy a manual car then learn to drive in it then go for my test in it but I wasn't allowed to or my insurance and 10 year warranty would be void as soon as I drove it out of the caryard.
Since my other car was yellow stickered which had expired I had no choice but to go with a CVT.
So I'd prefer a manual, but I am driving an auto.

One speed electric motors ftw!
I enjoy driving a manual but in traffic jams up HILLS sometimes I do with I had an auto - or at least have hill start assist like the subarus

Unfortunately, car was chosen for me whilst I was hospitalised after my last car was ripped in two.. at the auctions there is little choice from ex-fleet cars, so a CVT is what I ended up with.
I enjoy our Falcon with auto, great for economy towing. Hate the fact that the CVT limits my ability to make real horsepower in the Lancer... I would love to change it out.. but there are so few parts around yet...

I have an Auto. I always have had manuals, but the wife has always had auto's and can't drive manuals. The car is for both of us.
The new auto's are more effecient then the old ones as they are controlled by computers and sensors.
The Aspire only comes out in the Auto as well, but with the paddle shifts you can drive it as a a manual.

Like Aspir3 I got an auto due to non manual driving wife. She does have her own car, but it's always meant that if we go in my car then I drive (not so great as I like a drink and she doesn't) - hence the auto. Still, makes the drive easier, just less fun and controlable (although the manual shift on the CVT isn't too bad)

Sure, I will be adding flappy paddles too, but pity it can only endure about 250hp.. once you break it, it is not fixable... I better get a good wrecker on speed dial Adrian, I still want to try the turbo on this CVT...

I am have a manual preference myself, usually.
The only Auto I could rally put up with long-term is the TC-SST or any other Dual-Clutch Automated Manual. Once you get used to their little quirks they're brilliant.
Had the VRX had it as an option, I would've ticked it for sure.
As for the missus, well I made her learn manual in my old car so when we got this car (1st shared car) I could get manual

All of my (not the ones the wife drives too) were all manual, even the older Statesman Devilles were converted into M21 drag box 4-speed manuals. Kerrie can drive a manual, but lets face it, cars are hard to come by in manual these days at the Ford dealer!
It has a few good points, like sitting in traffic for her..
Wonder how big a job it would be to turn the CVT into a manual if I bought a wreck, Adrian?

That is a good question Tryg, and with an educated guess, quite possible. Of course you would need a fair bit from the wreck, including the ECU (CVT and Manual are different) and the obvious like gearbox, pedal box, shifter cables et al

Practicality- I live in the CBD and gf can't drive manual.
Car I wanted- Evo manual is apparently crap and I wanted the MR model which only came in dual clutch (TC-SST).
Put the two together and that's how I got it.
I do want to buy a Lancer ES in manual or something so I can learn to drive manual though. That'd be fun.

Auto.
I have had manual but I found I don't drive them well. I have difficulty focusing on multiple things at once so for me it's a safety issue.
I really like that with the CVT I can go 'sort of' manual but still have the auto for times when I really need to focus more on what's around me (pedestrians, other traffic, road works, etc).
If they had the TC-SST in models below the RA I would have jumped at it in a flash. The CVT does me nicely though.
