Hello people,

Was reading a thread earlier where the 'fogging' problem was arisen. I thought I might post a little post to tell of my experience with products.

RAIN-X EXTERIOR:
Love this product, simple way of making your car just that little bit more safe. Would recommend to everyone, but make sure you coat the front windscreen at least 3 times, as it would wear out quickly if you don't. Lasts 60 days (front with windscreen wiper use) to 6 months

RAIN-X WIPER WASH ADDITIVE:
Useless, don't even bother.

RAIN-X ANTI-FOG:
Lasts about 2 weeks, with 1 coat. Must coat with thick coat, or it won't work at all. It does keep the fog away a little more after, but your windows still eventually will fog up.

RAIN-X WIPERS:
No comment. Never used it before.

ALTERNATIVE TO RAIN-X: PPG AQUAPEL (US Only - expensive)
Excellent water repellent. Even better than Rain-X, lasts longer too. But very expensive. Lasts 6 months minimum.


Now, if the fogging you are talking about is to do with plastics excreting fumes...

Mother's Interior Protection Spray:
Lasts 30 days. Makes the interior panels feel a little oily at first (it is an oil based product after all), but it gives a new shine to the interior and does protect/keep away the excretion of fumes, temporarily at least.

Turtle Wax ICE interior protection:
Heard it's good, keeps away dust too, never used it. Try it, and tell me what you think.

303 Aerospace Protectant:
HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. SO EXCELLENT, IT'S AMAZING! NO KIDDING! And it's multipurpose too! Will protect for a long time (still protecting now on my car), restores moisture and shine (looks like new), and has SPF 40+ protection to keep the UV rays away... I haven't seen one bit of haze since i started using this product... and i used to use Mother's for this job.

yeah RainX spray is good stuff,
you can't use it on tinted windows though.

the turtle wax is okay, I've used it twice and it didn't really do all that much from what I noticed, I still have a 3/4 full bottle

I've used Rainex before it is pretty good

I remember coming across in the user manual saying not to apply this stuff if the car has a rain sensor.

I have been a fan of Rain-X for years. And one day I decided to try out the washer fluid and I found it works just as good as the rub-on stff, and I don't have to bother putting it on which suits me fine

EXALTD, why don't you like the wash fluid? Perhaps you didn't put enough in?

Squala, it won't affect the rain sensor, as the sensor is on the other side of the glass

Maybe the reason isn't that it will damage the sensor, maybe the water sheets off the glass to easily that the sensor doesn't detect that its raining ???

Mine works just the same as it always has. That was one of the things that I paid attention to in a trial of Rain-X i did. Sometimes down the motorway, at 100km/h, when the water rushes up over the sensor fast, it makes them wipe faster, when really the wipers are not needed at all. That's the only gripe, but as simple as turning off the wipers, they aren't needed at 100km/h unless its misty as well.

I have found that the washer fluid isn't really great. It is very temporary unless you spray the wiper fluid a lot, and I don't (I prefer not to use wipers when I don't need to). So to me, i find applying the product a lot more long lasting and effective.

That's just my opinion. I know people's opinion will vary.

I use the washers/wipers to clean my windscreen usually once per week (in between regular washes) and I find that that is sufficient to keep the windscreen treated.

When I used to use the other stuff, I did it after every time I washed the car (say fortnightly) and it used to lose its effect between that.

So totally opposite to you haha

I triple coat the windscreen hence the long lasting 2-3 month effect

A single coat will last about a month with frequent wiper use, imo.

Sir-VRX, u really need to consider Aquapel - it's even better than Rain-X, i'm actually going to change from Rain-X on the front windscreen to Aquapel because of it's proven benefits over Rain-X.

The best part about the RainX windscreen washer fluid additive is I don't have to apply it! I just carry on as normal

I couldn't be bothered to apply it manually anymore hahaha
