Elm 327

Postby aspir3 » Thu Dec 24, 2015 11:43 am

Recently I purchase ELM327 from ebay.

Can anyone help me to get it connected to my Sony Android phone? It came with a small disc but I am lost what to do.

I have installed Elm327, mini obii and Torque(lite) apps on to my phone.

I haven't used the bluetooth variant of the ELM327 - However, the normal way of connecting them is connect the ELM to the car, then the laptop connects to it.

I'd go about connecting the ELM327 to the car.
Then using bluetooth, pair the device to the phone, and then the app being bluetooth aware should find the bluetooth paired device.

Looking on google suggests the code might be 1234, but you have up to 1 minute to pair it after it's powered.
Make sure the ignition is ON, but not engine running (so dash lights are all on, not just the LCD).

Thanks for that. I managed to connect my phone to the car, the pin number was 1234.

I still don't know what the disc is for.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm getting to old for technology

Did Torque or any of the apps fetch data?
The disc would be for laptop with bluetooth :)

Okay, I don't think my laptop has blue tooth.

I did manage to get some dials on my phone that moved when I revved the engine. I'm not sure if it records data like I'm use to on Evo scan.

I suppose to use it properly I will need to mount my phone some where safe where I can read it when driving.

Ahh that sounds like it works then!

What's your goal for it?

I'm not really sure. Merlin was telling me it was good when he was over the other week. I'm hoping it can read my codes if I get another CEL.

I thought for the small amount of money it costs me I would give it a try.

I just would like to know how to use it properly. It came with no instruction, just the small CD which did nothing when I tried opening it on my laptop.

What can it do?

Much like the tactrix cable - but it can't reprogram the ECU.

It is good for data logging and will work on nearly all cars

I have done a little research and there appears to be a few copies of the ELM327. I have the mini V1.5.

What copies do other members have and what are the differences?

I find these data logging information tools very interesting.

I have this tool.

https://www.scantool.net/scan-tools/pc- ... link-mxbt/

The main thing is how many protocols it can read. = more compatibility with different vehicle manufacturers and vehicles.

There are other features that i haven't tested like how it wont drain the battery.

using this with torque app.
K+N drop in
RA intake
SS 4-2-1 Headers
Whiteline Strut Brace
Whiteline Rear Sway Bar
SuperPro Polyurethane Bushings
Paddle Shifters

I order Maxiscan-MS310 from Ebay which merlin suggested I get for reading codes.

It has not arrived yet.

I was super impressed with Torque Pro, though I am yet to work out how to do logging.

Hi Merlin,

Logging with Torque Pro is super easy.

From the main screen, hit the "gear" icon then 'Settings', followed by 'Data Logging & Upload'.

At the top is the "What do I want to log" section where you get to choose all the million-and-one options, and about half-way down from there are two further options - 'Log when Torque is started' and 'Only when OBD connected'. Setting these two mean you automatically start logging as soon as the OBD device connects to Torque.

When you're in the dashboard mode, there is an option from the "gear" icon to turn logging off. I suspect there's also one to start logging, if you haven't selected the two settings described above.

To get your log files out, connect your phone / tablet to your PC and use whatever file transfer program you want to go to

~/.torque/tripLogs/

and find the correct log file to copy back to your PC. The logs are all in .CSV format, so they'll load straight into Excel or whatever spreadsheet program you want.

Cheers,
V
