"Ex-rental" she ran for it

Postby Metalstrix » Thu Jun 27, 2013 1:38 pm

Hey guys

I've surprisingly had numerous enquiries for my car when I put it down to 10,990. However, some lady today told me she wasn't going to come anymore as she found out that it was an 'ex-rental' car. What's so bad about a car being ex-rental?

A lot of people might consider that rental cars haven't been treated well because no-one actually owns it.

But if it's a clean car with no problems a smart buyer will know that it doesn't matter.

OK, I think these should explain why...

If you get a rental... lets just say, you want to get your moneys worth.

EDIT: I will admit I am an offender, the things I did to the hummer we hired... and that crappy little cherry... usually the cars are very mechanically sound, but a lot of people just stay away to be sage.

TrojanHorse wrote:Dont put down that its ex rental or tell ppl it is! A) who cares if it is but also b)they dont really need to know! All that matters is the kms and service history. Lol..too honest tom. Never give any more than the basic details, if they want to know anything else they can ask. And if they do ask where did you get it from, just say the dealers or a private sale etc. They dont need to know its an ex rental car etc, cause as youve found, some ppl have this image in their heads, like ex taxi cars also (although you can usually tell those by the massive mileages) that its then a bad car to buy etc cause many ppl have driven it blah blah when in reality the car is prob fine! Dont give out any info that likely to hurt the sale esp if its something pretty minor like that, not like a major prob with the car etc.

Lol of course. The only info I did give her was that it was from a dealer. I didn't tell her that it was a ex rental car. She must have downloaded a car history report.

What Erin said. Only tell them the basics of your car. If they want to know more they can ask.

I sold my last car and they asked me if it had been in any crashes. I said no not as far as I know, I haven't had any accidents in it. Kinda truth. I hadn't crashed it but I did find out from raa that it had been in a prang. Buyer beware. The people who bought my car didn't even get it inspected of test drive it. Which worked out good for me :)

Service history is always good. Have the receipts for any services you have gotten done.

Rental cars aren't all bad. My first car, my meteor was a rental n she was a beast! Still on the roads today.

I've heard a lot of stories about people working at car dealerships thrashing their demo cars, I imagine it can be a similar thing with rentals.

True people thrash rental cars but if you bought it with service history and can tell its clean then it shouldn't be an issue

I still laugh at people who think buying from an auction is safe

Government cars get hammered and so do cars that have gotten repossessed

anyways good luck with the sale tom.....$10-11K is a great deal

If you trade your car in at a dealers you must declare that the car has been used as a hire, rental or a taxi.If you are selling it privately best thing is only tell the buyer what they ask....don't volunteer too much extra info.Good Luck.

Cheers guys. You've all cleared my mind. I thought having an ex-rental car means I have to deduct my price. But seems not. Thanks!
