I once owned a Red 1979 Ford RS2000 Escort which I traded in on a Nissan in 1991.
I purchased the car, New from City Ford for $7200 (drive away) in November 1979.
I traded the car in at Randwick Nissan for $6000 in June 1991 at 11 1/2yrs old.
The Original 1979 RS200 Brochure ....
The guy who bought it, Mario from Parramatta (2wks after my trade-in) contacted me a month ago after reading my details in the original Owners/Service Manual which I left in the glove box.
He rang my parents home phone number and spoke to my dad and got my Mob number.
He still had my original Ford RS200 Escort .... .... almost 21 1/2yrs after I traded it @ 11 1/2yrs old.
We spoke for a while about engine & suspension mods and some general history during my ownership.
Apparently he drove it for only 6mths after he bought it, then took it off the road and placed it under wraps.
He unwrapped it 4mths ago, started it, registered it (Historical Rego), replaced the perished tyres, drove it and joined the RSOC.
He told me the car still basically looked as I had originally traded it except for some paint fade spots, perishing window rubbers and some superficial paint deterioration of window & door trim strips etc and some dry interior vinyl door panels.
I was amazed & surprised that my RS was still alive and driving after 33yrs ....
