they should not decline your claim on warranty as the coilovers do not affect the parts you are claiming for warranty.

But if you where claiming warranty on lower control arm bushes and you have coilovers fitted they can deny your claim saying your coilovers caused the damage

Yeah they can't void warranty on parts not affected by modifications. The dealer I bought mine from sold the car with 19" rims so they do have to warrant the rims etc if they have a fault.

I'm afraid you're wrong there champ. You should have signed in the front cover of your service and warranty booklet to acknowledge that any non-genuine parts and accessories fitted to the vehicle are not covered by warranty.

The warranty is provided by Mitsubishi. The wheels were not put on by Mitsubishi, they were put on by the dealer, and they are not Mitsubishi parts. It is no different to if you had put them on yourself. Unless you have a specially written letter from your dealer saying they themselves will guarantee the wheels and any damage they might cause, you're uncovered, because Mitsubishi sure as hell won't warrant them - why would they?

I think there's a small amount of confusion here between Vaughan and Ben.

It's about point of contact, not who provides the warranty.

Yes Ben got dealership fitted non Mitsubishi Rims. Yes they are not covered by Mitsubishi Warranty, but the rims themselves have their own manufacturer warranty from which ever brand they are.

Any probs with the rims, Ben can go to his Mitsu -dealership- and they will sort out the rims for him with the rim manufacturer. Thus single point of contact. (Some may refer customer to third party rim provider with a case number etc)

On the very unlikely off chance that the dealership provided rims caused a problem with the car and Mitsu Australia knock back the warranty claim due to the rims, it's the dealerships fault and they should take responsibility and/or wear the cost of repairs and parts. If they don't, take it to the fair trading ombudsman.

Hope that clears confusion or interpretation.
