Interesting post...

Have to agree with the thin paint, chips all the time. Don't mind the interior plastics however am annoyed that the centre console in mine doesn't have a lid which gives it an untidy look. Just an open box.

And finally the seats are pretty rubbish in the ES. No support. Will be upgrading them before my back completely packs up!!

However it's miles better than my old $1300 1989 Mazda MX6 Turbo...then again even a Holden Camira would've been a better car than that!!

Ok, updated gripes, after almost 2 years ownership

1. I clocked 45,000kms today
2. Steering wheel buttons don't cycle through Radio Presets
3. Bluetooth doesn't work with newer Nokias
4. Wipers wipe for no reason (not as bad for me as others)
5. No Direct iPod control or charging
6. No Auto-Up on driver's window switch. My parent's car has Auto up and down on EVERY window switch, even on the passenger doors.
7. Thin paint like everybody else says.

That'll do for another year :P

Okay here's mine (sportback):
1. Rear Visability is poor, ESPECIALLY C-Pillar blinds spots are HUGE!!
2. Paint is thin, annoyingly so.
3. Handbrake tension, it's too loose, great for handbrake turns etc, but bad for hill starts or for actually parking the car. (Probably can get adjusted)
4. A-Pillar blindspots especially at the bottom of them are huge also due to the large sideview mirrors.
5. Rain sensors are a little hit and miss. Sometimes wipes too much when little rain but not enough when lots. Most times it's fine. They also go off at dust.... very annoying.
6. Rear boot door on the sportback raises very high. Some public car parks it touches the ceiling or railing for overhead lights, parking spot sensor, vents or cabling.
7. Rear window wiper is not rain sensing yet the front are.
8. Turning circle of the car is quite a lot larger compared to other cars I've driven.

Note: A-Pillars are the ones either side of your windscreeen, C-Pillars are the ones either side of your rear window.

After owning my car for over a year, i've got a list of things i don't like about the car:

1. Rattle in the dashboard. I know not everyone has the problem, but it seems to be evident in a lot of lancers. Since i'm very anal about these things, its really put a dent in my mitsubishi ownership.

2. Cheap interior. I'm sorry if i'm expecting too much here, but the interior plastics are rock hard. Most new cars in the same class range have soft-touch plastics which don't feel or appear as cheap, so i do disagree with many people re interior quality not being up to par with cars in equivalent class. Door trims also appear cheap, first thing me and my friend commented on when we sat on one and took it for a test drive.

3. Gear knob, i dunno it seems that i got a cheap rubbery gear knob whereas some other people who bought vrx's got a leather wrapped one?

4. Rain sensing wipers activating automatically. Seems like a widespread problem

5. No direct ipod connection, so i can't skip songs using my steering wheel buttons

6. Interior noise, not very good, although better than the last car i owned.

7. No auto up on drivers side window. Sorta baffles me why it has auto down but not auto up.

8. No centre dome light in car (because i got the sunroof). Cant find stuff in the back seat at night.

9. Cheap sounding rear doors.

10. Slight lack of low down torque during takeoff

11. Engine has a very 'tinny' sound to it

12. Cheap boot trim. The carpet is thin and can be prone to moving around. The underfloor cover is mdf and not secured properly.

13. Windscreen wiper motor can be noisy. (sorry my last car had silent wipers)

14. Steering is a bit too light for my tastes. Also at full lock, it seems that the weighting goes from the steering goes funny.

15. VRX spoiler. Wish it was a deletable option. I think it makes the car look tall and narrow.

16. Oh yeah, and the thick A-pillars. It creates a really bad blind spot esp when your turning into a corner and trying to see where the traffic islands are!

Hrmm I think thats about it, lol. Before everyone starts bashing my thread, yes it seems like i have a lot to pick on my car, but the positives of the car so still outweigh the negatives.

For those with rain sensors - its a common problem with any car for them to go off when there is dust - it thinks there is something blocking the windscreen hence so. Though activating when clear is another story...

My gripes so far (coming from an Outlander so I'm used to a few things):

1) No glovebox light.
2) Doors don't seem to close all that well (esp the boot in the sportsback)
3) Visibility through the A pillars is somewhat ok, but the C pillars is terrible.
4) I have to spend more and buy some dynamat to make it quieter (as I will be upgrading to 18s at some stage...)

I might add: I was quite surprised to find the lancer was AS LONG as our outlander... even the mazda 3 is shorter... :( Heavy too...

The Outlander and Lancer are essentially the same vehicle, aside from the obvious suspension, drive and body changes. Same floor pan etc etc - so not too surprising???

I hate about my evo is the cost of everything is far to dear. You can phone any garage and tell them you are looking for a part for your car and i swear as soon as they ask the moddle i can hear him rubbing his hands together.

Also forgot to add the high level spoiler is impossible to see through. every time i look out the back window i see nothing but a carbon fin

And servicing intervals other than that i love it

Can be very sluggish with 2 or 3 passengers on board. No low down torque which is really annoying. Very short 1st gear which becomes apparent more when using the CVT pulling away from lights. I'm not looking for face peeling acceleration but equally I don't want to hear the engine screaming at me to shift up at such low revs!!
