fuel economy was pretty good. The drive from Sydney to coffs harbour returned around 6.6/100 according to trip computer.
But when i calculated it manualy using the trip meter and when i filled up at the service station,the more accurate reading was 6.0/100.
That was the best figures. From coffs to the Gold Coast was closer to 6.5/7.0 due to more hilly terrain,more traffic stop start etc..

So my warning light came on today 484km's and i drove like a granny the whole tank, averaged 9.74l/100km which is piss poor as far as im concerned,
Tank took 49.79 litres to the top of the spout and had done 485.3 km's when i got to the petrol station.
my tyre pressure is 34psi all around, and i threw in a injector cleaner with this tank to see if that helps.

I think a few litres get lost in the tank (you'd probably run out of fuel yet still have 2 or so litres in the tank). So basically count the tank as being a few litres smaller than it actually is.
My last tank I filled up 52.5L and did 640kms. Very happy with those figures. I have slow and fast days too, I don't worry about economy in my driving habits.

Well for a 2 litre,i think the economy is poor around the city and i guess im only comparing it to my2008 corolla which i owned before,could easily get around 8 litres per 100 no matter how you drove it. And remember the corollas have a 4 speed auto compared to a CVT which is supposed to improve economy. I think the CVT is a sales gimmick if u ask me.
However in all fairness the Lancer is a lot more punchy than the corolla,and you can feel it has more torque,and has sexier looks.

Yeah i find it burns more using the gears manually, however it's a bit of fun especially around hilly terrain. I couldn't handle driving a proper manual, would drive me crazy pressing in the clutch pedal day in day out, in traffic etc..

While people can go on all day about technical car type things, in the end the biggest factor for fuel economy by far is how you drive it. It's about learning how to feather your throttle, reading the traffic ahead, less braking and more coasting. I used to be quite a leadfoot driver and in my MPS (2.3l turbo AWD 1650kg with a heavy, twitchy clutch that still causes me to occasionally rev to 3k on takeoff) I used to average +12 litres. Now days even driving to work everyday in peak hour traffic I can average 8-9 litres. I attribute this to a game I like to play - the "how far can I go on a tank" game. I think it's 70% attitude, 20% driving ability, 10% environmental.
Pretty sure its a little more than 10% environment.

Except for one time where my estimated range dropped from 500ish to 200ish on a ~50km hills run haha.

Even in peak hour traffic if you're purposely driving to save fuel economy you'll find that your l/km won't increase by more than 10%. Like me for example, I'll drive 40km in bumper to bumper traffic every day and my combined fuel economy is still under 10l/100km (with a car rated at 10.6l/100km combined). As for hills, don't forget what goes up must come down. Most importantly environmental refers to factors you can't change, things like peak hour traffic you can avoid if you choose to by going earlier/later or taking another route etc.
