All the conspiracy theories you read on the internet surrouding K&N filter's ill reputation for fouling MAF sensors are unjustified IMHO. I've had K&N in prev cars, never had MAF issues with any. If you clean it and oil it correctly - following the instructions, you won't have filter oil in your intake/MAF.

Based on empirical evidence, HKS filters are the ones that tend to destroy MAFs in Lancers:

You forgot the Aspire. As to the K & N, Chi has a point like anything if its not properly maintained things could go wrong, it would be the same if you didnt remove an old and dirty air-filter, or didnt seal the air-box properly.

depends how deep your pockets are, without forged internals motor wont last. Alternatively might be able to match up a RA head onto the 2.4 bottom end.
