WTF are you on about Ben?
You do realise that cars cost a lot more there than they do here right? And then based on standard of living, it's even more costly for them to afford a car.

Proton

$MR74,000 - $MR84,737

$MR117,676 (EX) - $MR120,598 (GT)
$A37,757 (EX) - $A38,694 (GT)
Seems to be a big difference in price across the board, compared to each other and Australia (especially the EX).

Keep in mind cars which are not assembled/built in Malaysia (or a country which has agreements with Malaysia e.g. Thailand) are subject to vehicle importation tax.
For example, a locally assembled S500 is RM1mil, whereas an imported one would be RM2-2.5mil.
Also note the above price conversions are being done when AUD is at a very high point relative to historic exchange rates. The long term average is closer to the 2.5-2.7 mark which would see the prices actually being a lot more comparable (for the Inspira which is obviously exempt from the above mentioned taxes), with the foreign made/parallel imported Mitsubishi cars being priced at a significant premium (e.g. EX, Evo).
And to answer the Q above, Singapore and Malaysia both have very expensive cars but for different reasons- Singapore requires you to bid for the plates/road tax/etc, whereas Malaysia just has protectionist measures in place to encourage local industry.
I also guess it goes without saying not to compare blindly because different trim levels, different on-road costs/taxes, etc.. apply. Then there's also the difference in marketing (for example, an STI is considerably cheaper to the tune of 30% than the Evo X in both Singapore and Malaysia. Beats me why.)

Not that I'm happy with what's happening, but why is it all Proton's fault when Mitsubishi agreed to sell them the design blueprint?
seriously i hate it how mitsu help proton - this is gana make these cars like the old cc lancers.
