Tadz, in case you didn't get my post on your FB Status:
The $495 for your plates is probably not the the complete word ones. It would more likely be for ones along the same lines as my plates.
Also, the $495 is in addition to registration charges. It is the purchase of the plates, rego is seperate.
Just thought I'd correct you before you got too involved haha

495 is the full cost of the plates that i want. Im going to go to vicroads on monday to tripple check on this that this is inclusive of the 1 year rego. When i spoke to the person there i was like "Does that 495 include the rego to my car for one year" and shes like "yes, you just have to let us know what car you would like to assign them to"
The $495 is just for the rights to own the plates and the combination of letters/numbers. Registration costs are separate. Trust me.
So think of it as going into a shop and buying the plates off the shelf for $495, then having to go next door to the Vicroads office and paying another $600 for registration.

Quoted from the Vicroads FAQ section..
What exactly am I paying for?
You are buying the right to display a registration number on a vehicle. Registration numbers are not items of property, so you cannot buy legal title to them. All registration numbers remain the property of the state of Victoria. Once you have purchased a number plate you have purchased the right to display that combination on a vehicle of your choice.
Are the prices on your website all I have to pay?
Absolutely. And what’s more, we believe that once you’ve put the time and effort into deciding upon a combination, the rights to display it should be yours for life. You pay for the privilege once, and continue to enjoy your chosen combination for as long as you choose. There are no annual fees and certainly no hidden costs.
