The F1 drivers are the best of the best drivers in the world.

No matter how poorly any of them do in a race you have to at least give them credit for making it to formula1.

The level of physical and mental capability these guys have passes all other athletes in any other sport.

This is why I believe these guys are the best athletes in the world.

I won't doubt you on that. They have such intensive training and reflexes that they would rival fighter jet pilots. I'm sure alot of the F1 drivers would make superb Ace Pilots.

Anyways, i'm going to have to watch a few more races before i make a proper thought on Webber's talents. Right now i think he's pretty rubbish as a driver, however that overtake of i think Alonso at the beginning of the Spanish Grand Prix was pure brilliance.

+1 David Anthony,

Ravine i can see you are starting to change your tune about Webber.
as i said hes a Top Driver the best of the best.... and besides that hes an Aussie.
i have watched over the years and he has been so patient..
he could of been a Champion in any other motorsport but stuck with F1.

give him some credit.

and yeah, that move on Alonso.....
you will never see better....!

Webber FTW. @ Monaco

The wheel banging with Barichello was accidental. I know it was uncharacteristic for Webber to pull a stunt like that on purpose. I thought the drive-through blew all his chances of victory but he fought on and never gave up. He's shown great potential from his first race in Minardi, a surprise fifth in home soil driving the slowest car. Eight years after, he's finally got it, and I'm happy for him. I hope he wins some more but it will be really tough against a teammate like Vettel.

For all those saying Webber is a shit driver. Wow. Have you actually watched any of this seasons racing? Or previous seasons? You have no clue.

ANY of those drivers, given the right car can win.

Look at Button for instance, equally as bad results as Webber - jumps into an awesome car and dominated the first half of the season. Now take a look at Hamilton, awesome driver, shit car. Finally gets some decent kit for his car for this race and was in the top 5 for speed over the weekend and got a bit unlucky on the first corner.

Look at the previous teams Webber has driven for - Minardi, Jaguar, Williams and now Red Bull. Can hardly be expected to run with the pack when in Minardi and Jaguar cars. His time at Williams should have been better but even then the car wasn't as fast as the leaders.

Shit drivers don't drive in F1, it's as simple as that.

Exactly, he's previously always driven shit cars and as said by others, even the shittest driver in F1 is still a better driver than all of us

Mind you I still prefer V8 Supercars to F1, more exciting to see a commonwhore which is far from an ideal racecar smashing it up around the track than a car designed purely for speed and manouverability  :P

OK, I am one eyed Webber fan.

He has had some hard luck, crappy cars. But records show:
- 5th for Minardi...... Minardi scoring points at the time was lucky, but it happened.
- kicked most team mates in qualifying (present season excluded). He has killed off many a promising F1 career by simply smashing his team mate on the track. Wilson, etc.
- qualified Jaguars as well as anybody could. He is recognised as being able to pull one clean lap when required
- out qualifed and held his own in racecraft with Coulthard (who himself won GPs with Williams & MacLaren)
- rode through Williams in decline. Smokey retriements due to dead engines (think BMW at the time) in Monaco was one memorable event.
- Rosberg did not show him up, Heidfeld did not show him up as team mates.
- smashed off the road in a wet Japan by Vettel under safety car. Won't mention Lewis H suddenly backing off as a prelude. High potential of a win that day may have changed mindset earlier.
- lived through the "hydraulic failure" period of RBR..gearbox, after gearbox, after....
- started the season not 100% (I think he did not want an excuse)
- he has been second (but not smashed) in qualifying by his teammate Vettel this season, but Vettel is being touted as the next Schumacher.
- he has looked "grumpy" when coming second to Vettel, although they have worked well together. This team player aspect is respected in the paddock. His team recognise him as "equal first"..to a guy
- I think he is still to peak this season, as his fitness is only now looking like 100%. He has the monkey off the back, now let's see what he can do.
- when he opens his mouth, there is plenty less crap and more humility than Lewis..("oh, it was tough, and it it were not for my brilliance, and the X%#@# in the Maclaren factory in Woking stuffing me up with enhancements, i pushed and pushed and dragged the machine single handed through the desert to be victorious".

A man with immense talent, but now getting older. He has the car, he has the fitness, he now can be self confident in a way he has never been before as a GP winner. I am less worried about where he finishes this season, but watch how he goes in comparison to Vettel. Vettel is recognised as class, so how does Mark compare to "Class"

he showed his class by never giving up on that race.
i mean a bloody drive through, and he still managed to make that time back within a few laps.
he never gave up.
Thats world Class to me.
hes got the winning feeling now.
did you all see & hear when he crossed the line what he said!!
"You F**ken Beauty!!!!!!!"
they didnt have time to blip it out!!!
that was GOLD.....& made me feel very proud.

-1 to behave for that lewis hamilton comment....

OK - Webber manages to finish a race for a change - AND in first place. I didnt watch it. But well done to him nevertheless - after 180 starts - HE FINALLY HAS MORE F1 RACE WINS THAN I DO!

F1 - many great drivers but cars are mismatched
V8 - only 2 cars to choose from but only a handful of decent participants (and they're pushrods)
