debonaire wrote:Either you have a signed contract, or you havent. I can only imagine what the paperwork was that you signed, but Im assuming you initialled something to say you would be happy to buy that car for $25000 then took off. You can sign to say youll buy it for 20c, but until you have a legal contract signed by you, a witness and the sales manager, you havent bought a car. Anywho, when the hell did Aspires get so cheap, I used to sell them for 35 not 25.

That's true enough man and I'll remember that next time.. even if I have to take a cab home I'll finish the bloody paperwork. (It was the big pad thing where you fill in your details).

Ex-Demo, done 10k, 26,990 was the asking price.. dunno man.

When I agreed to buy my car, the dealer and I shook hands on a full tank, and on delivery day, he pretended not to know about it. It's such a cheap move, but he may have seen my face and was afraid that I will cancel altogether, so the car was brimmed in the end.

Walk away if they don't want to honour what you agreed on.

Ok, this is a fun one...

If your signature was on a Purchase Order then you are completely justified in getting the change over that was first agreed on.

If, however, the sales person was doing a proposal to purchase and you said "I will buy the car at 25k" and he gets you to sign that piece of paper he wrote it down on that is not a legally binding contract.

I do agree that $26,500 for an ex-demo Aspire is very cheap (I used to sell them brand new). I would personally counter offer $26,000 and an extra $500 on a trade in. They will have to get this signed off by a Dealer Principal, but it is worth a shot.

Any questions feel free to PM me, I am always happy to help. I have been selling cars for 4 years and know all the in's and out's.

In all fairness guys, there might not be any 'shady dealings'. If he was just doing a worksheet up that is NOT a contract. When selling cars the one word we get drilled into us is "if"... "IF we can do $25,000 on road will you buy it".

That is not saying we will, it is only if.... so we can see if there is commitment there.

Jonno is right, smells a lot more like common consumer ignorance at this stage than shady dealings by the dealership.

And here is a fun fact for everyone... even if it was a signed contract, the dealer actually as NO obligation to honour the contract price anyway! If they decide they don't want to sell it for that price, they're allowed to raise the price and the buyer can either pay the extra or terminate the contract.
I haven't heard of it happening, but that is the law (in Queensland anyway) and is in the fine print on the back of every new car contract.

EDIT: And to everyone trying to convince the guy to buy the Ralliart, I'm sure if he wanted to buy a used performance car he would've done that. Perhaps the reason he chose to purchase a low km Aspire with warranty intact is because that is what he wants...

Best way to do it, get the price down as low as possible, dirt cheap squeeze every last cent out of the salesman, then offer him 50% cash for every dollar he saves you from then.

Suprisingly another $600 comes off the price and he pockets $300 cash.

Dealers these days (and salespeople) preffer full finance deals as we get paid commissions on them along with the dealerships injecting more profit into skiny deals.
