Crazy Idea

Postby Anhevius » Mon Nov 09, 2015 6:49 am

So, been thinking about things, and I've thought of something interesting I might want to try.

I have a 380, which has a red/blue lighting scheme. The CJ lancer steering wheel has red lights, and the controls are in a much better position.

Would it be extremely difficult to swap the wheels out? I imagine I'd have to do some custom wiring work to mate up things like the cruise control (the 380 has that little knobby thing that sticks out the side instead of the on-spoke controls). I've never swapped wheels on a modern car, aside from stock to stock replacements, and I know jack-all about how the CJ one is wired up, or the 380 one.

I just think that the controls on the face of the wheel would look better and be easier to work with than the weird crap they have on the back of the spokes...plus it'd be fun to confuse anyone else with a 380. "Oh, that wheel? Yea, it comes as a special feature only, you have to know the secret code when buying a 380 to get it...and the handshake."

I can't help you but I'd be just as concerned about the airbag wiring as much as anything else.

Oh, naturally. Though with many manufacturers, they tend to make the airbags fit as many vehicles as possible, to save production costs. Though that being said, since the 380 is an Aus build, it might be different with the Lancer (most likely) being built in Japan.

I'm going to have to go to the U Pull It and see if they've pulled steering wheels from the two. Then I can get a good look at things.
