So back in the day Evo's used to kill it on the rally track, I mean that's what they're made for...
Then all of a sudden they disappeared from professional rallying never to be seen again. Now you look at the WRC and all they race are Ford Focus', Hydndai's, Citeron's, etc.
I read somewhere that it was because of financial issues (GFC?) and that was the same reason that Subaru pulled out as well...
But can anyone confirm this/suggest otherwise?
Was the Evo X ever really used in rally?
Is there any chance of Evo's getting reintroduced? (I don't really know much about rally regulations, have they/evo's changed enough so that evo's won't be able to compete again?)
Keen to hear some thoughts! g=

Not an expert here but I think it was a couple of things.
First most others moved to smaller cars, usually 3 door hates so a 'big' 4 door sedan was getting out dated. Then there were rule changes to the engine size which conspired to rule out the Lancer in it's current form to compete in the WRC.
I do wish Mitsubishi had released a 3 door hatch version of the CJ, I mean how hard could it be. Then again they have been dragging their feet when it comes to a model to replace the CJ so many if they continue with the name we could see a new WRC Lancer in the future.
