Windows 7

Postby Loki » Fri May 15, 2009 7:24 am

I'm no nerd by any stretch of the imagination! Just a self taught computer user out to get the best out of his equipment.

Since Vista was released I have considered it an EPIC fail. On both my laptop and desktop for the past few months I have been running the Windows 7 beta and have found it to be more stable, less resource hungry and overall just a damn sight easier to use!! All the benefits of having vista, without the drawbacks.

As I write this I am downloading the 64bit RC version. I find it amazing that they sell computers with 4gb ram and only the 32bit software which doesn't use over 3gb of ram!!

Anyone else been using windows7 beta? I'd love to hear some thoughts and opinions on it. I think it's going to redeem microsoft a lot for those users not wishing to move to other OS like Linux.

I've been using beta since is came out and just need to reformat over to the RC now. Vista was a flop and in reality Windows 7 is basically Vista SP3. Compatibility with old software is also much better under Windows 7 and they should now actually be able to woo business users over.

I think the reason 64 bit hasnt been more widespread was that people fear it, when going Vista everyone was telling me 64 bit would be a pain in the ass and give me grief. Now using Windows 7 64 bit I've never had a single compatibility issue with 32 bit software :? My PCs both used to register 3.5gig of RAM but after SP1 they registered 4gig, whether it was utilizing or just acjknowledging that much memory was installed I don't know.

Windows 7 means formatting my laptop which means finding a place to backup all of my music.

I'll get around to it at some point...in the distant future.

Ive used vitually every format of OS ever realeased, win 95, 98, 98 se, win me, 2000, server, xp, vista....but havnt had a chance to check out windows 7

Honestly though, i dont why everyone rags on vista, I thinks it a good OS....I have never really had any problems with it, I mean sure, doesnt have 100% compatability with everything...but after they realesed the SP1 update for vista, they did fix alot of the problems they were having with it.

I use vista on all the computers in the house, and as long as though they have a half good graphs card in it we have no problems with it....Yeah it is resource hungry but it looks fantastic in my opinion.

Ive just noticed latley....I havnt been posting as much anymore =(.

Probley coz i havnt been driving the lancer since the wheels have been fix. Got them back and getting them re fitted today xD.

Sorry to go a bit off topic there lol

I've played with the Beta, but I recently formatted my machine. I've loved using Windows 7 and really look forward to getting the official release.

I only used the Vista Beta and didn't think much of it, other than it looked nice. 7 has really improved so much over Vista.

I'll probably download the RC1 64bit pack this weekend and try it out.

I am operating the 64bit RC of windows7 now on my laptop and desktop as they are both 4GB ram and I want more than 3GB used. Both units run excellently with absolutely no issues whatsoever. I will definately be purchasing the commercial release. It's good knowing that I have until June 2010 to do that.
