URGENT: Help regarding refund issue please!

Postby squala » Wed Nov 07, 2012 4:12 pm

Basically, it's one of those motivational finance seminars I signed up to. I realised that I have prior commitments so I am unable to attend. I sent a cancellation letter to their office to request a refund of the fee I prepaid. Two days before the seminar, I called them up to follow up on the refund itself as it has not yet reflected on my credit card. In their website, it says it may take up to 30 days to get back the refund, so I let that time pass before checking again. Now they claim that they have not received my letter and they cannot be held responsible for it. So they will not refund me anymore and my only option is to wait for another seminar. As this is US-based, there is no set date yet.

They advertise themselves as wanting to help people straighten their financial situations, but with this kind of scheme, I'd say they're only interested in my money. I know I should have sent the mail through registered post, but you guys see where I'm coming from.

I remember reading somewhere before that there are Australian laws enforcing such organisations to give me the refund so long as I advise them before the seminar date. But I forgot the source, so the help I need from you now is where to find any such laws so I can point it out to them and be refunded once and for all.

Cheers

In situations like this, dodgy product or soso service, if u pay by credit card, u can lodge a dispute thru your bank to stop payment. U have to do this in writing explaining y you will not pay.

Ive done this couple of times now. Once on a dodgy product, and the other bad service.
