Sounds like the clips from behind have just come loose.
Have a watch of my video on removing the dash out of the car and if your willing to do it yourself see if you can get it apart and resecure it somehow.
Otherwise just take it to mitsubishi and they will do it for you

This happened to me a few weeks ago and I was just as disappointed. I fixed mine the next day it has worked fine since then.
There was signs that something had snapped because small pieces of plastic where missing from the back of the part that you actually grip but it still went back together.
Using 2 house keys I pushed the 2nd part that was stuck behind the horizontal grill back in place. I Then simply pushed the part that you actually move back on and it clicked back in place. Haven't had a problem since.
