I was chatting with Aaron yesterday about his problems with the lights and no he does not have resistors fitted to the light circuit.
Sounds like the Ecu issue is probably trying to read a blown globe because of the low resistance with the LED lights.
Shouldn't the ECU give a code with the error?
I would have thought once the computer was plugged in it would have put a code up for blown globe or resistance error.
It is not fair if you have to pay for new ECU and labour if they can not do a quick fault find.
I bet you there is nothing wrong with old ECU. If they plug the old one in it will work fine with the rear lights replaced.
All that was needed was the resistors installed.
It is a pity you did not join ccj before this problem.

And BTW I don't think lancer123 bought the LED tail lamps from me. All my tail lamps come pre-wired with resistors now. Those who bought earlier recieved 2 resistors within the box to wire in. So I hope this doesn't put off anyone.
41 LED Tail Lamps sold. No problems from anyone.
If anyone does face a problem, I'd appreciate a PM to tell or even an open post on the forum so our Chief Tech - Sir-VRX can help shed some light on the issue.
The problem as Mattigins put it is well known. In the US and even in Malaysia, many people I've read still haven't solved the problem and have been driving around still with this problem. But for a dealership to swap out an ECU due to your aftermarket lights, now that's silly.
I'm not so sure I would have done the same. I would have taken out the tail lights first and put back the stock ones. See if the ECU Still had a problem. If not you've isolated the problem. Surely the bill for a new ECU should be enough to get you to take off the part at fault. Then look for an answer.
An analogy would be trying to open a door with a bazooka. You've just gone OTT in trying to solve your problem and over-reacted.
I find it very hard to believe you wouldn't just remove the tail lamps to ascertain if this is the cause of your ECU problems. Unless your intentions was to try and paint a very dim picture of these LED tail lights... . Now, that would be just wrong.

Aaron I don't think there is anyone in the club who has had their ECU replaced. Therefore I don't think anyone will know the cost.
The main point is there is nothing wrong with your old ECU so why pay for a new one?
I would not accept paying for a new one when it was not required.
Good luck tomorrow.
