Gday and a question

Postby badbrains » Wed Apr 07, 2010 9:15 pm

Hi guys, I've been reading for a while since buying my first Lancer a few months ago and so I figured it was about time I joined in. Pretty cool forum you have here and there is obviously a fair bit of knowledge out there amongst the members, it makes for interesting reading.
I am driving a 2010 Grey VRX sedan with the 5spd and whilst I don't know a lot about car mods, there are a few bits and pieces that I have seen on some of your cars that I really like.
To start with I'll be blacking out the front grille area and maybe shifting the number plate and I was wondering where is the best place in perth to get the vinyl wrap for this? and what do you guys think works/looks the best for this job, paint or vinyl?
In the near future I'll be looking to lower the car and paint the calipers while I am at it.
Seeya's on the road.

Hey Paul,

Glad to see you've finally joined up and joined in the fun here :D
You should introduce yourself in the new members section too :)

As for the front bumper, I'd recommend vinyl as it's easy and easily reversible (and cheap!) you can pick it up from a sign-a-rama (various locations in Perth) or a local signmakers for easily under $20.

Some people prefer to use Plasti-dip which is basically a spray which hardens into a plastic, I've seen it on aussie027's VRX and I must say it looks better than the vinyl ;)

Painting the calipers isn't too hard, I did mine a while agowith a paintbrush (I was worried about overspray) and it's only just started peeling off with one layer, I need to re-do it again some time soon :P

Hope this helps
Graham

Probably best to go with vinyl for the blackout mate, this way if you get sick of it or trade the car you can simply peel it off. In terms of getting hold of it any sign writing place will have it, but if you have any trouble hit up someone like Graham who has local knowledge. Finally you also mentioned moving your plate, I have done this myself and found that a couple of cable ties done the job nicely.

And mate, enjoy the club :D

An alternative to vinyl is plastidip.

It paints on, and it comes off. Provides a different finish to vinyl.

Vinyl is the simplest like the guys say.

Welcome by the way!!!

Thanks for the welcome and advice fellas, I'll check out the plastidip before I get some vinyl. I'll keep on reading the older posts and how-to's as a lot of my queries seem to have been answered already.
Cheers
