Just saw Prometheus. If you're a sci-fi fan you'll like it. If you're a die-hard Alien fan you might have some issues with it.
It doesn't try as hard to be scary and if you've seen the other movies you can generally predict whats about to happen the entire way through the movie at least a couple of minutes before it happens.

Don't believe I'm spoiling anything here, but it reminded me a lot of AvsP1. People explore somewhere, discover they're not alone, bad things happen, people die. Pretty standard movie formula.

Its a very pretty movie though. The Prometheus reminds me of the Serenity only with 4 thrusters :)
I also liked the ending a lot too.

To me, if you set Sunshine in the Alien universe, and made it less intense, you'd have a very similar movie to Prometheus.

I posted on fb that I think theres a bit of a plot hole at the end unless I'm missing something though. I'm gonna watch Alien 1 now to see if theres anything else I have an issue with :P
I hung around about halfway through the credits to see if they addressed it but it didn't feel like anything was going to happen so I asked one of the staff and he assured me nothing happens in/after the credits so if he lied, I'm gonna hunt him down

Went and saw it in 3D at the IMAX yesterday - As you said, its beautifully filmed. Especially in the beginning. I have to say it was a bit of a lackluster, It kept building itself up only to tear itself down again. And the fact that it gave more questions then answers kind of ticked me off.

Personally I think Prometheus is only part 1 without giving to much away - I just don't see how they can open a can of worms and leave it at that. The last scene was also unnecessary and corny.

I don't want to spoil anything on here for people but I personally liked the things they left unexplained. They could explain them in the future or just leave them be for the fans to guess at.

I don't know everything about the Alien universe but I have my own theories about how the planet and the ending fits into the universe at large and I like movies that leave a bit to your imagination. Alien has never been about explaining every little thing.

I read somewhere that if Prometheus does well they might make another Alien movie. The key thing I take from that is 'Alien' movie not 'Prometheus' movie. They've tried quite hard to keep the Alien name separate from Prometheus and I think that might be because Prometheus was as much an experiment to see how the current world reacts to it/what the world wants from these kind of movies nowadays as it was just a movie.

Also 'Prometheus 2' wouldn't make sense anyway :P

I have a habit of liking sci-fi movies no matter how bad they are simply because they're sci-fi though.
But being part of such a famous franchise means if you're interested in whether they did a good job then I think you should see Prometheus even if people say its bad, cos then you can decide for yourself :)
If you don't like sci-fi don't bother with it.
If you don't follow the Alien series but still like sci-fi you'll probably actually have less issues with the movie than people who do like Alien :P
