But is that annual? Our price is once off, and the plates I have now are $395, but the full word prestige ones are $2295

Once off payment for initial rego and buying the plates...

But re-rego is the killer each year, you pay a higher than normal amount for the previlege.

The CLUBCJ plate is available here in NSW too, but you are looking at $110 order fee plus an extra $440 each year on your rego. Think I might just go with CHU887 (username birth year) for only $90 a year.

Thats the joys of being old, my plate costs me nothing because I have had the combo for so long.

I wanted to get a full custom but $440 per year is much better spent on other things!

agreed, if it was a one only fee like other states it would be great. I am still a bit hesitate about my half custom plates for $90 a year, but I think they might be my xmas present to myself this year and every other year (as well as the CJ I guess)

My plate conveniently has my year of birth on it just by complete random chance. Beat that! :3

No you don't.
Rego is the same regardless of having custom plates or not.
You pay a once off fee for the plates, then every year you pay your standard rego fee.

Really? Heard from my sister who has custom plates on her MR2 that she pays more rego than standard. I myself don't have personalised plates, so I was just going on my sister's word there. Apologies if I have made a mistake.

Here you go, from Vicroads custom plates web site.
There is only a once off payment for the plates, then they're yours for life.

http://www.vplates.com.au/faq/#faqs1.8 wrote:Are the prices on your website all I have to pay ?

Absolutely. We believe that once you've put the time and effort into deciding upon a combination, the rights to display it should be yours for life. Which means you pay for the privilege once (ie. $495 for a set of Custom Plates) and continue to enjoy your combination for as long as you choose.
There are no annual fees and your plate purchase price covers you for the first assignment to your vehicle.

In the instance where you decide to move your plate to another vehicle, this will incur an additional 'assignment' fee. Please view VicRoads website for a full list of Number Plate fees.

Are the plates mine for life ?

We understand that our plates are a fun and very personal way to add some individual flair to your vehicle. No doubt you’ve put much time and effort into deciding on your combination and we’d like you to keep that combination for as long as you like. However, it’s important to remember that there’s also a serious legal side to plate ownership. This means that at certain stages during their lifetime you may need to do certain things to ensure that you don’t lose or accidentally transfer your rights.

Provided you keep us informed if your plates are not attached to your car for longer than six months, you don’t accidentally on-sell your plates with an old vehicle, and your plates do not need to be recalled, your plates will be yours for life.

Wish that was the case here in NSW, I would not mind paying a higher price
to order a plate if I knew I was not going to be stung each year for it, and to
make things worse the RTA reserves the right to change the price anytime
they like. That said surprisingly for a government office the yearly plate
price dropped a bit this year, but at the same time the price to order a plate
went from $30 to $110. Anyway that is my rant I suppose if you do not want
to pay the price stay with a standard plate :(.

This has gone dramatically off the topic. These are pictures from VIC meets NOT a discussion about custom plates!
