I can read your ecu (I have a tactrix cable), and give you the hex file to send to rpw.
I can't flash it back as they will not give out the def file, and you will need someone like Tunehouse to reflash.

MSN details in footer, best way to get me, always online but not always at PC.

Bit rough don't you think? I certainly hope you don't spend your time on the forums being as abrupt and rude as this very often.

Tandle,
There are but a few places in Newcastle capable of doing what you asked. From my experience and the experience of a few friends who enjoy doing the same thing the advice is to be very careful of who you ask to do the work and look around and get your research done. If you would like a place to start send me a PM with a quick outline on what you want to achieve and I will look into it for you.

If you want to go the RPW avenue then
Update : 3rd November 2010 - due to the difficulties we are having getting tuning firms online, the decision has been made to allow a greater range of access. From here on, any tuning firm with an ABN number, we will provide a basic definition file to allow reading / writing to the Lancer ECU's. This will allow all Lancer owners access to our tunes.

Goodluck in your lancer adventures.

Whilst I agree with the searching function being used, keep in mind that this is the NSW forum and the OP is asking about a rural town/city which is quite far from Tunehouse in Sydney. I think it's a pretty fair thread since he's essentially asking who else is from the area and if anyone in that area has experience with the flashing.

ps. It's also Christmas time :)

Since you brought it up, personally I don't see anything wrong with what rthieu mentioned.

Your first point of a search should be the search form. Now I tried it: "ECU reflash"

and I found the RPW thread regarding reflash.
this in turn would lead to the Reflashing outlets outside of WA thread.

If everyone had one question that needed an answer and posted up a question each time, we would have 1000s of orphan threads. This then becomes a vicious circle. As when the next noob comes on and wants to find an answer to something, he starts another new thread instead of searching.

In truth if the TS had searched and posted his query to the thread :

Reflashing outlets outside of WA

Someone would have replied to him. Furthermore, this thread will not in turn become and orphan thread after the TS's intentions are completed.

Let me show you a few e.g.s of orphan threads:
3 threads all talking about Tein Springs:
TEIN S.Tech Lowering Springs
Tein Stech springs QUESTION
S.Tech Tein springs Part number?

Now neglected threads since these people have now had their questions answered but the next person who comes along looking for info on STech Teins has to read 3 different threads to perhaps source for his answer.

Wouldn't the first question be to RPW? RPW is the one providing the updated ROM. If they like to make the A$75, perhaps they should canvass the club to see how to get their files out there. Not the buyer asking for another club member to help them out... .

I'd also point out that your reply to rthieu left alot to be desired. Sarcasm doesn't get us anywhere either. It is X'mas after all as Jace pointed out.

The title of the thread is

ECU Reflash/Tune in Newcastle

As Jace said, a very specific question which after admonishing one rude response I proceeded to offer some help to the OP. At no stage was my post replying to rthieu. I am sure his intentions were good ... the delivery just left a lot to be desired.

You're right Ofey, sarcasm gets us no where. Neither does branding someone asking a question a noob just because they may not have searched a possible answer before hand.

As when the next noob comes on and wants to find an answer to something, he starts another new thread instead of searching.

If this is how senior forum users want to treat new people to the forums I can forsee a problem with this club being labelled as "elitist" which I would certainly hope is not your intention.

Just to recap. The OP's title implies to me (a simple forum user) that he is asking about tune shops in Newcastle. He makes a request for information about Newcastle shops and then at the end of his post states

think i may have to buy the rom from RPW soon as well

I fail to see how a thread about RPW rom's with no reference to Newcastle Tune Shops would possibly answer the OP's question. No?

Perhaps the next time you want to get your soapbox out mate you should understand the original question.

:) Merry Christmas.

Your post's opening firstly labeled rthieu's response rude... .

Worse still you seem to play judge jury and executioner. Have you ever met the guy? But you seem to have labled him rude and been presumtuous to jump to assumption in thinking this is what he does usually.

Seems I'm not the only one who gets on a soapbox... .

Noob=> newbie.
TS has <10 posts. If he's not a newbie to the forum, I wonder what you'd label him as.
I was once a noob too? What other interpretation are you off on now?

I don't practice any of this elitist behavior you purportedly imply but I would encourage everyone to search for information and use existing threads to ask questions.

The TS is clearly asking for a reflash which BTW only RPW offers this in Au. The tune shop route would see you going to dyno tune the car. It's not a reflash per se.

He then proceeds to ask if anyone can provide access to a tactrix cable.
Finally he eludes to the fact that he'd like to buy an upgraded ROM from RPW soon.

If he is looking for a tune shop in Newcastle, he wouldn't need to ask for a Tactrix cable as the tune shop will more than likely have one. No self respecting tune shop wouldn't have a tactrix cable. Furthermore, if he wanted a tune, he'd just go to the shop. No need to read his ROM separately.

Dare I suggest that the failure in understanding exists over on your end. Join the rest of us down here, perhaps then it will be clearer to see and understand your peers... .

X'mas wishes to you too. Hopefully today puts abit of light into your life... .

I'd like to apologise to those here that may have been insulted by my comment and perceived it to be rude and disrespectful.

I was in no way intentionally being rude to tandle as some of you have perceived. I was merely trying to help him out as he is new to the forums, by linking him to a thread which i thought may answer his question and then just advising him to have a search on previous threads next time as sometimes questions are already answered.

I hope you guys can understand where I was coming from...perhaps i should have put a smiley face or something after what i wrote to lighten up the mood :P

Not sure if this is the avenue to discuss this but I can't help but think that the OP was asking about generic tune/reflash options and doesn't want to necessarily be locked into RPW's tune. It would appear to me that the thread linked to above is pretty much RPW only and wouldn't facilitate open discussion.

Either way though, I don't know why Melbournians would get involved in a thread which asks where to get reflashes done in Newcastle, NSW. I agree that we don't want orphan threads on the RPW flash, but 2/3 of the post are clearly directed at finding other people in the Newcastle area who either can help him out with a Tactrix cable or have some experience.

I know I'm playing a bit of Devil's Advocate but it seems cruel to the new user on ClubCJ when he's actually asked a pretty fair and open-ended question suitable to a state board as opposed to a particular sponsor's thread. I don't think RPW would appreciate his board/thread becoming a generic "what tune options are available to me?" thread when it's clearly meant to be for discussion of the RPW tune, and similarly, I don't think posting a generic tune related question in there would yield impartial/unbiased responses.

Perhaps I have misinterpreted the OP but my perception of what was asked was along the lines of "Does anyone in the Newcastle region know where I can get the RPW ROM reflashed onto my car/anyone with a tactrix cable that can do this for me?"

The OP's last line of "think i may have to buy the rom from RPW soon as well" has led me to believe he is only referring to the RPW tune and is hoping for someone/somewhere that he can go to, to get this reflashed back onto his car once he purchases the RPW ROM.

As I have stated before, I was merely trying to provide advice in a harmless manner.

There are clearly two cases here. My involvement is not directed at the TS's original topic.

My bone to pick was with the comment made subsequently about being "rough". I found it similarly "rough" and unnecessary.

I apologise in changing the topic's direction.
I would also like to point out there's a lot of cross posting between the forums of different states. I shall bear in mind that there will be no further cross posting in future.

Back on topic then?

Let's find the TS a REFLASH tuner in Newcastle.
So just to be clear, a reflash tuner is one who does not dyno the car but provides an edited ROM for this purpose.
