First off, I do apologise if this has been covered but i searched "license plate" and i didn't find anything.
Ok, so i'm going to plasti dip my front end and don't want to put my plate back on the bumper because i think it won't look as cool AND i was going to cover up the holes where the plates go back on.
My question is however, Does anybody know the laws in NSW about if i can just put the license plate anywhere such as getting a side mount or just putting it on the grill just under the bumper?
P.S Hope everybody had a great christmas =)
Kevin.

Looks like you should be fine either way from what I understand as long as it is unobstructed and visible from 20 meters away as it states in the document

Ehh, should be right, I suppose that if you just go strictly by the diagram then side mounts even from factory would be illegal as they are within that 45 degrees and not in the shaded area (A), you could still relocate the plate though just put it lower ie on the top of the lower grille, (the centre of where my plate is located rather than to the side), still I wouldn't think that it would matter as long as it is not obstructed

The number plate must be mounted in the factory mounting position.End of story. You cannot legally sidemount your plate on a CJ, you may get away with mounting it lower down in the centre.Even though you see some Alfa Romeos with a sidemount plate this is legal as this is where the manufacturer designed them to be.And it must be attached properly not with wire or cable ties.

I got mine mounted on the side, didn't had any dramas at all. When i got pulled over, few of them went around the car ( tire check etc) but no questions asked about the no plate, that's in QLD tho.
Pretty sure it has to sit in 45 degree angle and it must be visible from 25 meters also it has to be mounted on the passenger side
